Default Xenon Brights

I'm interested in people's experience with the optional xenon high beam headlights. I had heard one of the problems with xenons was getting them to thow a long narrow beam so I hesitate to order them.

Thanks in advance.

These are an option on the 2007 and I presumed previous years as well. Perhaps they're only options on the 987.

Bi-Xenon headlight with washers is an option. Not sure if that is what the original poster was asking about or not.

I have them, and I love them. The road is so much clearer. Much easier on the eyes when driving through dark areas (side roads, out of the city). Of course, in the city, the streets are usually illuminated, so not that big a deal.

The only downside, if any, is that the speed limit signs, etc. on the side of the road get too reflective when driving on high beams.

When xenons were first offerred it was just the dipped headlights and the high beams were still old fashioned bulbs.

After a couple of years the specification changes so both lights dip and main were xenon.

I recommend them for anyone who does any amount of night driving, more light which is whiter and longer range so can only be safer.

My only experience with them was on the wifes Audi (low beam only) and I hated them. Thought they were too bright (artificially bright/harsh) and hated the very distinct pattern/cut-off to the light pattern they showed. Hard to describe, but they didn't win me over.

Xenons or Litronics in porsche lingo are much better in my opinion. I had them retrofitted on my boxster (easy to do) and not only they look better they are also much brighter than standard bulbs. The term bixenon is BS in my opinion, on both my cayenne S and the new 997TT the high beam is NOT xenon, it is a standard bulb. the xenon bulb lifts up when high beams are on and it looks like you have xenon high beams, but you don't.
an easy way to test it is to flash the headlight high beams with the lights off and you'll see that the xenons don't flash, it is just the regular bulb high beam.
hope that helped.

Try bumping the bulbs up to 6000K, they are very white with an almost dazzle brilliance and very very light blue twinkle. Mine is an 01 with dipping lintronics/HIDs.

Why?

Go for a test drive at a dealer. These days the days are short enough that you should be able to take a drive in the evening.

I have litronics on my 2000 Boxster S and I really like them for night dirving. I think they also give the car a little extra "outta the way" attitude on the freeway
