What would you choose?
Ok not paying a $300 ppi by the looks of these two cars which would you rather own:
97 Boxster: 35k miles for $17k
99 boxster 97k miles for $16k
I like the black one becuse it has upgraded rims but the miles are killing me. The silver is all stock. With everything about RMS leaks ect what would be the best deal here? would the miles really matter?

I'd go with the 97 with less miles. The car is basically the same other than a few things like side airbags and most 97 have less options that I have seen. A couple of things is: 1) the 99 is the model with the slipping cylinder sleeve issue I believe 2) miles are harder on things like suspension, transmission, mechanical parts, seats, window regulators, etc more than years in my opinion 3) silver is better. I am biased. 4) RMS leaks aren't year specific
just my $.02
just my $.02

..yes the '97 with less miles. The '97s had porosity issues but at 35K that should not be an issue.
Then it becomes a matter of use left and the '97 should have it over the '99.
You can buy after market rims, but you can't buy mileage back.

One thing about wheels to add. Generally if you buy a car with the wheels on it you really like and pay a little more you will be happier in the long run. Most people never buy aftermarket or new oe wheels to replace what they dont like they just live with it. Wheels can make or break a car and to each their own with what looks the best.
I would probablly buy the silver if it was me. The lower k's are better and I WOULD buy the wheels I like. Tho really all that car needs is a bit of a lowering job. Black cars are a PITA to keep clean and your always wiping it down for dust etc... A color like Silver is always clean, doesn't have water spots etc.. Black when clean really looks awesome, but unless it's perfectly clean (just washed, waxed, polished and tire shined) it never really looks perfect. Other colors, yellow silver red etc always look good even when they are not 100% newly washed and waxed...

Lots of comments and clarifications
There are lots of comments throughout this thread about miles, prices and engine troubles, most of which I have at least small issues with.
First, the porous motors were a specific set of serial numbers between very late 97 (i believe) and early 99. You cant tell just by year. You may be able to check with PCNA by serial number.
If it is within the range - 35k is not enough miles to be free and clear. There have been reports of failures beyond that - QED. Clearly 95k is.
Agree that the 95k miles car should be cheaper. But these are pretty durable cars, so I'd be tempted to negotiate that price down. It is newer, which is generally good, and the motors last a LONG time aside from the colossal failures noted above. Which brings me to....
You have not talked about condition or PPIs on either. The real question is "what condition is each car in?" You dont seem to know. Get PPIs done - $100 each well spent. Check clutch, suspension, air-oil-separator, tire condition, brake condition, maint records, etc.

I agree
Grant,
My thoughts exatly for the 99, higher mileage must mean it was not subjedt to some of the issues plauging early low mile Boxsters. The PPI is gonna be the true test but Dennis also has a great point. The added mileage does wear on other things like transmission and suspension ect. I would be tempted to jump for the 97 because the low miles = less stuff to go wrong. The black looks way better IMO but buying from a dealer and not knowing the previous driver's style no one can argue with the mileage.
