Default Soft top transmission problem

Hey Guys,

It started 4 months ago when the push rods of the soft top of my boxter 98 broke. My mechanic replaced the rods (and charged me a kings ransom) and the top worked fine for 3 months. Then one of the push rods broke again when I was lowering the top. My mechanic replaced both the push rods again (and charged me a kings ransom again!!!). After a few operations, the push rod from the left side came out of its holder (I suppose it is called the soft top transmission). Now my mechanic says I need to replace the left transmission as that is defective.

Has anyone experienced this problem? any advice will be greatly appreciated

Regards,
Aman

opps, on a 98 the transmissions should be updated to the new style, both sides with the new mounting hardware and new cables. The old styke transmissions are common failures as when something lets go they over run and thats about the end of them

I would do the transmission replacement yourself and save the king's ransom for something else... It's really easy, I have no mechanichal experience and I figures it out in an afternoon... You can get used transmissions off Ebay to upgrade both sides fro about $500 if I remember right... and installation is free if you have a couple of hours.
