Default Navigation Unit in a Boxster S

I have searched and searched and searched again. Please don't beat up on me too badly

Is there a reasonably priced Porsche nav system that can be fitted to a Boxster S. Either Porsche OEM or aftermarket.

I have a friend considering buying a 2001 Boxster S with 34k miles on it. I'm the gearhead in the friendship but I'm the proud owner of an 06 GTO and have limited knowledge about the particulars on the different Porsche models.

He was telling me that he thought the Nav system from a Carrera could be fitted to a Boxster.

Another request..... recommendation for a reliable Porsche mechanic in the Quad Cities, IA area would be very appreciated.

Just an aside. I have gotten thoroughly sucked into the site much the same as I am ls1gto.com. Lots of good information and opinions on all things Porsche. You guys seem like a great bunch.

OK guys. I know I'm a GTO girl on a Porsche site, but give a gal a break. Any information would be good. Good cars are good cars no matter where they originated from.....

The boxster forum is not as active as the GTO one you frequent. I think people will tell you that putting an old Nav system in your car will be expensive and not worth it. Leave it stock and get a Garmin or something.

Thanks very much for the advise. At least someone responded with a positive response even though it was something I had figured all along.

If you own a PDA there are several programs and hardware packages that will allow you to use the device for GPS nav. The garmins are very nice, a bit pricey but worth it.

Get a traffic pro...a guy is selling them on ebay for $300. I have had several (different cars), work great, turn by turn directions, look stock.

+1 on traffic pro, keeps stock look, cheap on ebay and works well. I bought one for my 996 and am very happy with it.

I just went with a Garmin Nuvi, better unit than the traffic pro, and portable

Same here. I use it in 2 vehicles and if and when want to upgrade, it's not a big deal. Mine does bluetooth too.
