Default Top Problems

What I have discovered on my 1999 Boxster with only 33,000 miles is the top won't work when the park break switch doesn't light the dash park light.

It has to do with the switch on the parking break.

It works sometimes.

So I wait for the park light to go on in the dash before I can lower or raise the top.

Has anyone replaced the switch?

How difficult is it?

The dealer says about $300! seems a bit high for a switch.

Thanks, John, Las Vegas

It takes 1 minute to replace the switch, but you have to remove the center console to get to it. The switch is the white thing with a black plunger. Porsche started using a better switch in July 2000.

Hunt around for the B&M short shift install pdf. This will show you how to remove the console.
