A 3.4L 996 engine just for a bit more cash. Excellence just had an article on this conversion. You would need a new DME also.

Well, I would expect the coolant level to be really low if that were the case, and it was just below the low line, so not too horrible. But the cap did seem to have a little pressure behind it. I'll screw the plug back over and crank it and see if it seems to be pressurizing the coolant system.

I wouldn't. Could be just making things worse. The engine might be salvagable.

Remove engine, like you were going to, then pull head on that side. Then see what's going on.

Sincerely,

Macster.

Finished up my engine support brace/porsche tool 9591/1 and got the rear bumper, exhaust, diagonal braces, and reinforcement plate cleared out. I'm starting to really consider a 3.4L swap. I've been looking around a lot but have been having a hard time finding a ton of info on it. Any suggestions where to look?

Try www.986forum.com there should be some good info on the 3.4 swap there in the technical section. Probably also some at www.renntech.org.

There was a great article on a 3.4 boxster swap in one of our last months magazines. Either Excellence or GT Porsche. Lots of tips for tuning/problems/exhaust/locating engine with drop mounts etc.

I poked around both 986forum and renntech. I believe it was renntech that used to have a tutorial posted in pdf format but it has since been removed. Was looking for as in depth as I could find so I'd have a good reference to go off of to make the process go as smooth as possible.
Thanks BPG_Austin, I'll see if I can locate that article.

Try a google search for "tholyoak 3.4 Boxster" and you will find lots of info on this swap. Todd has done several Boxster motor swaps and is very knowledgeable & helpful.

I tried finding info on todd's work on renntech with little sucess. I'll give google a shot and see if it's any better. And the article was in Excellence apparently as my dad spotted it and snagged a copy for me.

Weird, I didn't know Porsche made a front engined Boxster.

I can see yours' just got dropped from the front.

Weird. Must be a rare model.

What?!?! That's how it was when I bought it and the lady said it was stock. You mean boxsters aren't supposed to be front engine?

Relax, the engine is in the right place - you've just been driving it backwards all this time.

I pulled the manifold off the boxster engine today to get to the harness so I can swap it over to the 996 engine that is replacing it and found some interesting artifacts in the intake. All of the intake valves are accounted for and don't look damaged.

Not sure what I'm looking at. Is that oil in the intake with white specs in it?

Can you post a pic taken from further back so I can get some perspective? If you don't mind. If you do I'll understand.

Sincerely,

Macster.
