Question looking for some pricing help on 02 S for sale

hi everybody,

I've got a 2002 S with 66K miles that I'm going to either sell or trade in in March which is terrible timing for a convertible in New England but whatever...

basics:
black/black/black 2002 S w/ Sport Touring package
heated leather seats
6-spd manual
automatic climate control
Bose
18 inch Sport Classic II's
Litronics
PSM

details
all service done up to 60K (plugs, belt, oil, air filter, etc etc)
Michelin PS2's new at 64000 miles
New Disks, Pads & fluid at 64000 miles
RMS & IMS Seals replaced around 35K miles
Clutch, throw-out bearing, slave cylinder, master cylinder replaced at time of RMS (proactively since it only cost parts)
GAHH glass window top (needs slight adjustment)
GT3 Console Delete
B&M Short Shifter
550 Spyder tail lights
EU smoked corners
17 inch Winter wheels & tires
original shifter, lights and console in a box
Porsche indoor car cover
Porsche bra & mirror covers (mounted once, never used)

it's not a concourse car but the paint is good for 66K miles in NE

so yeah... any idea what to expect for something like that?

Without picks, I would say between $15k and $18k next March, 2012. With all of your upgrades and maintenance records, finding a savvy buyer who values your proper care-taking will get you the upper end if your car presents well.
Getting a full detail done prior to pics and cleaning the little things, like the under carriage and engine, will go far to satisfy the two types of buyer who will come knocking.

thanks, I must say that I'm surprised by that; I expected lower

I made the sell decision after I wrapped it up for winter and I store with with the winters on so pics won't be available for a bit

Your car will be competing with all the ones people are considering trading for the new Boxster about that time. I'd say $15k with pluses for the winter wheels/tires in your area, litronics and other functional upgrades including the top. Minus would be the top fitting. Don't know how black sells...color is an individual thing and the right/wrong color can make a 30% difference!

I would go to Auto Trader online and get average price of 2002 S selling in Northeast, and then price bump it up a little since you have new tires and 60,000 mile tune up plus new pads and many options assuming vehicle is very clean. Offhand, asking $17,500 and maybe getting $16,500-$17,000 offer would be good deal from what I know about used 986 Boxster prices. The only negative I see is miles in that there are a lot of low miles Boxsters (garage queens) out there you are competing against. But $17,000 still seems like realistic price to me.

Yeah, I'd bet 15 private party, less trade in. Trade in won't care about your upgrades like tail lights and console delete.

out here it would go for about 16k I bought a perfect 02 S with 64k miles (and 60k service including clutch and waterpump just completed) and robbins glass top for 15.5k, he was asking 16.5k maybe ask 17 and expect 15.5-16?

How about a 65K mile 00S?

Lapis Blue, Full leather Boxster Red, Black top (with new back window)
Lintronics
New Tires, New Battery, New Water Pump
New CV Boots, New Tranny Mounts, Pedros Engine Mount
LNE IMS 3 row ceramic bearing
32K miles on hand built engine, all hoses, belts, clutch, gaskets, aos, all seals, rings,
bearings, chain ramps were replaced, during rebuild. PO had a catastrophic water pump failure.
Valve job at the time too.

Considering selling my S and going back in time to an old 911 and drive my 928 more.

No other reason than time for a change.

imho, you should also check KBB/NADA trade in values as well as retail values. Then be flexible. The car will be another year "older" and the newer Boxsters (981?) will be coming soon. Sounds like a nice car. Mid teens would be a nice number to get for it.

March is a great time to sell your Boxster in cold weather area. I bought my Boxster March of 2011. I was going to wait until May, but at end of February Boxster prices bumped up about $1,000+ over depth of winter prices and Boxsters started disappearing off of online sites after stagnating all winter. So I decided to move while selection was still good. Btw, I bought my Boxster from used car Audi dealer lot, offered $1,500 under what they were asking after thoroughly checking it out, and they accepted contingent on it passing PPI which it did. Drove it all spring and summer with no problems. Guess that happens when you find a good one. I paid $15,400 for 2001 Boxster with new top and water pump, and felt I got good price. It also came with very nice techequipment Boxster cover. Btw, I live and bought the Boxster in cold weather state...MI.
