Default P0507- high idle

I got a check engine light today. A P0507. Ran fine other than a 1200 RPM idle. I cleared the code, and since its been fine, idling at 600 RPM. Any suggestions? Thanks!

P0507 - Idle air control -- engine speed too high.

The ECM controls engine idle speed to a specified level through the fine adjustment of the amount of intake air which is let into the intake manifold by the operation of the electric throttle valve control actuator. The opening of the throttle valve is varied to allow optimum control of engine idling speed. The crankcase position sensor detects the actual speed and sends a signal to the ECM.

Possible fault causes: IAC valve is sticking or air cleaner blocked.

With a Porsche diagnostics computer this valve can be activated/tested. Clicking should be heard.

How to diagnose this/eliminate the IAC without the diagnostics computer's ability to control this hardware directly I have no idea.

And, there is the air cleaner possibility.

Sincerely,

Macster.
