Smile Buying a 986

I am shopping for a 986.

Questions:

1. May I know what are the major pros and cons for this car's maintenance?
2. Any good year(s) or bad year(s) for 986?

Thanks

03+ with the facelift and glass rear window would be the pinnacle of the 986.

Pros- (In my experience) maintenance doesn't need to happen too terribly frequently. If you're somewhat competent with a wrench you should be OK to do some yourself. If not, it can get pricey.

Also- check to see if the intermediate shaft bearing has been replaced or updated. It's a good thing to do for piece of mind.

Boxsters and 996:
The buy-in price is low
The stay-in price can be awful.

Smart solution - find an Indie who knows these cars. In abusive hands the M96 engine is fragile. You probably couldn't distinguish a good one from a bad one? I couldn't. Indie may have a customer car with known history for sale?
Check with local Rennlisters who are Raby graduates - for example Bill Young - search BYprodriver here. I found him both honest and competent.

Oh, and i don't know how I missed it, PPI! Definitely PPI the car. And keep in mind, there is NOTHING more expensive than a cheap Porsche. buy the best example you can afford.

The problem is - who is qualified to do a PPI in the S.Cal area ?
Search/ask Rennlist for :
Vision ,Long Beach
9xx Garden Grove?
Hergesheimer in Lake Forest
Bill Young, Costa Mesa
David Koncept Motorwurks ,Covina
Don't use a Porsche dealer in my experience.
