Default Porsche service quote make sense????? TPS

Just got off the phone with my local Porsche dealer service department. To replace tire pressure sensors $1,400. Seems crazy high to me.

I work at a dealer in service. Sounds a touch high, but not terribly.

Basic breakdown:
dismount, mount and balance 4 tires: $140
Replace 4 sensors (.6 hrs at $150/hr): $90
Sensors and valve stems: ~$242.50 each, x4

I do them for $1200 for the set, installed. Ask how many months are left on each sensor, don't replace if over 20 months.

Yes without a doubt ridiculous! I'm sure you can have it done for less. Search for aftermarket replacements.

Start in the 987 forum.

I think he said between eight and ten months left. I was a bit in sticker shock mode though so my recollection may not be spot on.

Yeah, you'll generally see them start dropping out around <10 months. Good to get em done then.

and why are you doing this at the dealer?
granted mines not a 987(mine was on 08 957) but i got mine for 150 for all 4 sensors(aftermarket) had them mounted/balanced/installed at my local shop for 100. Do you have to activate or do something different for the 987?

That is a good question. I don't know. Anyone else know?

Try to combine the TPMS replacement with tire replacement/alignment to at least avoid double work?

So i had some free time and was curious also....it seems like the 987's tpms has the same system as the 957's. You flick through the onboard computer and reset. Drive a few miles and the system detects new sensors. It looks like you don't have to have the dealer set/reset anything. So not sure why you're going to pay 1400 for a new set of sensors. I guess if you want to keep everything oem sure why not. There's a few sources for tpms that includes everything for 150 range....yes for all 4. Take it your local trustworthy tire shop for 100 bucks or so and you have everything for 250. Say for whatever reason they only a couple years...even after 5 sets changed you're still under 1400
