Alarm "double beep" on 2009 means what?
Does the alarm "double beep" when locking on a 2009 Cayenne indicate a) normal operation, the doors are locked / alarm is armed, or b) fault with the alarm system?
I thought b) but my local Porsche dealer is telling me a), and they should know.
Guidance please...

Oh no I had this issue with my 2011 Cayman, cost me over a month of seat time and $1500! Single beep means something is open (i.e. door, glovebox, etc). Double beep indicates that there's a fault in the alarm system and your car is NOT locked. That noise haunts me in my sleep as it was the most frustrating experience I've had with my car to date. In my case, some programming that I had done (at a dealer btw) was completed using the incorrect PIWIS system which messed the whole system up. It required to be reprogrammed using the correct PIWIS system. In your case it's likely an alarm micro-switch that has gone bad. Now these are all over the car, so, hopefully the one you test first is the culprit Takes some labor hours to hunt it down.

With my 2009 GTS I always hear a double beep when the doors lock. I have confirmed the doors are actually locked.
Been this way for the past 4 yrs., I thought it was normal.

No clue if the 957 is different, but on my 955, I can choose to have the horn honk or the signals flash in the 'settings' menu on the dash display.
I would see what happens if you set it so the horns don't honk.
If they stay quiet, then it's normal function.
If they honk, then I would think it's a problem.

Dealer confirmed that it shouldn't double-beep, and "they had to dig a bit deeper", and - yep - now it doesn't beep anymore.
Hopefully it's still the case when I collect the car tomorrow! If I can get any more detail on what they found/changed, I shall.
I do now know that the Alarm Control Unit is packaged with the Alarm Siren... $643 to replace it, which was $330 parts, $258 labour, plus taxes, in case anyone cares.

I just scrolled through the alarm menu and turned off the beep when locking.
So how would one know if there is a fault when set this way?
Now the doors lock, just no beep.

Mine double beeps, everything locks and the red lights on the tops of the door panels begin blinking (indicating that the alarm is armed).
*Except for the random times when the siren sounds instead,. Then I disarm and re-arm and all is good again. Porsche gremlins...

According to the 2010 manual:
"Locking: Using the key, Press the lock button on the key. The emergency flasher flashes twice and an acoustic signal will sound twice. The doors are locked."
Two chirps are normal, and indicate operating correctly. If a door is ajar, but not open, mine will chirp once when pushing the lock button, indicating something is wrong. I don't know where the Porsche mechanic is getting their information, but the manual is pretty clear

first press of remote it double beeps and double flashes running light to let you know the vehicle is locked.
immediately pressing the remote lock button again and a double flash of the running lights signifies the interior motion detectors are deactivated. (so a dog loose inside the vehicle does not set off the alarm.

Well, the end of the saga (for me) is that we're back to silent locking (no beeps). Maybe the double-beeping is just a configurable option? It seems strange that it started beeping at the same time as the alarm started randomly going off, but in any case, no faults shown now following the siren unit replacement, and all is calm once again!
Cheers for all the help and advice.

I have 2 remotes. The original doesn’t beep when locking. The new one double beeps when locking. Each fob can be configured individually using the menu options in the instrument panel.

Alarm 'beep' configuration, lock setting, something else that I can't remember at the moment.
I changed them back and they've stayed...
So far.
