Default Getting the camshaft p0011/p0021 vvt codes

Hey all

ive been getting these codes for a while and have replaced most other sensors on a long list of jobs to catch up with neglected work.I see there is a screen between these actuators and the oil path so wonder if they just need cleaning as after changing out old dirty oil codes still read.sensors haven't thrown a code to dash light yet tho.I’ve read code on my Autel mk808 ....

is it worth pulling them and cleaning everything ??

Yes. And clean the actuators with some carb-cleaner while pulsing them with a 9V battery.

Don't know what vehicle you have, but a service tip FWIW.

The early 2003 -2004 4.5 litre engines had a plastic filter in the oil gallery between the cam phaser and solenoid.

This filter is not removeable and will break if you try to remove it.

The later 4.5 litre engines have a metal mesh filter which can be removed and cleaned as required.

Don’t seem to be bolts holding in these V6 3.6 vvt solenoids.are they a twist to remove ?

don’t want to force and break them ?
