It's in great shape. Alcantara is the best upholstery ever - it wears well and cleans up from just about anything. Regardless, we have the interior protected with custom-fitted industrial-strength floor mats, seat and door covers, so despite taking our Husky / Malamutes out hiking every day, the upholstery is like new.

Good suggestions re tire carrier. I don't have a good place to store it, so probably wouldn't buy it just to save for later. [And, of course, there's the risk the car might get hit and totaled. "Anybody want a spare tire holder? Cheap?!"]

Remember, if you go without the tire carrier you will have to acquire a new or used rear bumper and have it painted to match your vehicle. (because of the notch for the lower arm)
I can't remember if there are any differences to the hatch. Other than you will have to move the license plate to the mounting point on the hatch.

New here and I have a 04 Turbo with the tire carrier and my servo also just went. seems like porsche still makes the part, but was quoted 5K just for the part. Did you fix yours directly through Porsche? Trying to see if there are other options - thankfully I have my manual override cable but its sometimes a pain to use

That's outrageous. I dug out my latest service receipt just to verify.

In 2020, I purchased part 955-722-031-03 ("Locking Device") for $1,101.64. According to Pelican Parts, that part has been superseded by part 955-722-31-04 and is indeed $4,974.00! I'm stunned.

If memory serves, the Locking Device incorporates several sub-parts. The servo, or "Electric Motor," by itself, is 955-624-521-01 and just $231.50 on Pelican Parts today. So, the question becomes, can you get a service center to replace the servo without the whole mechanism. When I asked, I was told both parts are temporarily out of stock - it's the servo that everyone wants - so it was moot, but I would certainly ask again now.

For the record, for $6k, I opted to not replace my cracked spare tire carrier. Not yet, anyways. Now, if the locking mechanism is gonna cost an additional $5k every few years, I'm glad I made that decision. The next time it fails, I will also swap over to a roof rack.

I hope this is helpful.
