Cracked Panoramic Glass
Cracked rear panoramic glass, is there anything that can be done here?
The rear fixed glass cracked totally randomly, it sounded like a gunshot. I really don't care unless the glass is going to completely shatter leaving a hole in the roof.
I cannot find a 955 pano frame/rear glass available anywhere and I am not sure it would be worth replacing anyway. The last time it was available new it cost about $6k - however it is no longer available so that is a moot point.
It seems like the Q7 used a different 957 style roof from the beginning. First-gen Touaregs with pano roofs seem to be almost unheard of.
I am thinking about getting some clear "wrap" material that is used to wrap vehicles and applying it on the outside and inside to hold the glass pieces in place.

I can't offer any solutions, but I also have a 955 w/ a pano roof...so this gives me the heebie jeebies. I would think that the cracks would not be water tight and I don't know if film or wrap will solve that. It's already broken, so I guess it's worth a shot.

Ugh. Greatest fear realized, No spare parts. The panel must have been under some crazy force to pop like that. The wrap sounds like it would work well. The biggest issue will be pressure bursts when closing the doors. Just need to check it every so often to make sure it's not stretching. The other issue is the lack of protection for all the times you roll over...

I looked up the part number, 95556205600, and there are several dealer results online. Are those all false? Also, a quick search on Car-part.com looks promising: Pano search

I bought my -06 CTT with the rear panel already cracked and decided to not care about it. Hasn't been a problem for 2y of ownership yet.
We drive with the roof curtain on, so there's very little visual noise.
I have not noticed the crack leak in any way. Hopefully by the time something serious happens, I've aready exhausted the vehicle.

There is security films available. These are used to make home and business windows stronger/harder to break the glass by intruders . It is similar to auto window tint but much tougher . I would use that on the inside and then wrap vinyl on the exterior .
Another thought is liquid polyurethane. I would think several coats on the exterior side would strengthen and waterproof . Last thought a windshield repair process . They vacumn special goop into chips/cracks .

It might be something worth having a windshield shop custom make. If a windshield can be custom made for a car, you can get a panel custom made.

It seems the glass must be a laminated piece. The inside, I can feel the cracks with a fingernail while the outside is perfectly smooth.
The present plan is that I'm going to lay some PPF film on the inside and leave it alone.
Maybe next year I'll swap the roof for a non-sunroof roof. The roof skin is still available from Porsche for about $850. The non-sunroof headliner is a bit steep at $2400 though.

My rear panel arrived like this 2 years ago and hasnt worsened. Dealer didnt mention it and i bought it out of state wiyhout inspecting. Coukd have happened on the hauler enroute. As my GTS was janky to start with and i cant see it from the driver seat i elected to leave it alone. Just like yours, smooth on the outside and feels like deep scratches on the inside. No water intrusion and hasnt worsened.

Yeah maybe we can all look to make an effort to report back here if anyone's cracked glass actually starts degrading, esp. wrt. water intrusion. Would be good to know to possibly start investing in films after all.
