Default Land Rover Discovery II or Cayenne S?

Or even the Subaru Outback?

A lawyer friend of mine says the Cayenne isn't even an SUV, it's just a glorified AMC Eagle. Good for nothing but driving fast. Not an offroad machine, nowhere close to the Land Rover Discovery II or the Subaru Outback...

Anyone have a response to that?

Thanks in advance

I agree. Cayenne is not just an SUV, it is the KING of all SUV.

Default Porsche is Porsche.

But how does it conquer all other SUVs?

Clearly the Cayenne has the performance edge on all of them....on the road.

But what about off the road? Vs a Land Rover Discovery II? A Subaru Outback?

Towing? I could imagine people towing their 951 track car with the Cayenne, but does anyone put it to work? Dirty work?

A Disco II...are you kidding me?! This vehicle and the Subaru are nowhere close to the same zip code as the Cayenne in terms of price, perfromance, styling, and just about everything else one could imagine. First, the Cayenne has serious offroad capability, far more than more legitimate comparisons, such as the BMW X5, Infiniti FX45, or Land Rover Sport. It out-tows all of these vehicles as well (as long as trailer lights are not involved). The handling and acceleration are also, of course, top selling points. Porshe designed a serious offroad vehicle having all the capabilities of a real utility SUV but with near sports car pefromance. Of course..it is a Porsche. AMC Eagle? Your lawyer friend is obviously clueless.

I think you have the Cayenne confused with the BMW X5...your descriptions fit the X5 but not the Cayenne. It is a serious offroad vehicle.

The Disco was discontinued and replaced by the LR3.

Also, the towing on the Cayenne is rated at 7716lbs which is BETTER than the LR3 and equal to the full size RR.

And how in the world did the Outback figure into the equation???

Newbie, what "off road" activity do you have planned that the cay cant handle but those other more inferior vehicles could do better????

what driving and car experience does your lawyer have to make him qualified to comment. I hope he knows more about law then vehicles.

hope you do the right thing and then see ya around the rennlist!!

I appreciate it, everyone!

I'm sure I deserve some ribbing, but I haven't driven a Cayenne yet. Just my lovely old 928.

It came up as he marveled about the Subaru AWD system and how nice it was, so I brought up the Cayenne.

I think you have the Cayenne confused with the BMW X5...your descriptions fit the X5 but not the Cayenne. It is a serious offroad vehicle.
Absolutely not; I understand the Cayenne's onroad prowess because all that takes is literacy and an ability to compare statistics. As I said, I've never driven one, let alone offroad; thus I sought advice and commentary from those who have.

He complains that his Disco2 is a TRUCK and that he's not even sure what a Cayenne is; that it doesn't qualify as an SUV because it's not Utility and it's not Offroad, just a fast car with AWD that you can fit groceries in. Hence his comparison to the AMC Eagle.

Now don't get me wrong, it was an affront to common sense and an indictment of him that he thought such commentary was rational. I like to gather facts and evidence to rebutt properly though. That's where rennlist comes in!

I do have to commend you for getting the boys aggitated!

Don't get me wrong as well, but it's better to test drive everything yourself and come to your own "facts & evidence" instead of someone elses'. Once you do, don't forget to let the forum know what you thought of all 3 cars :-).
