Default Tire Question for 19's

I have a CS with the 19 inch rims. I have been running the stock sized 275/45 for the past two sets of tires. Would there be a problem getting the next set in 285/45? Would the extra width/sidewall size cuase any problems other then the speedo being off a bit?

Thanks for any help.

Keep in mind that the wheel speed sensors feed more than just the speedometer. They also provide the info for the stability and traction control systems. I don't know if that size change is enough to have an effect on these systems but for the marginal size increase I wouldn't change. What do you have to gain by going to the larger size? I highly doubt there is a performance gain, in fact taller tires will likely hurt the acceleration.

The taller sidewall will induce more body roll with cornering.

I was going to go to that other size do the fact there were more tires available than the stock 19 size 275/45 as there are only 3 tire selections. I have tried the Pirelli PZero Rosso and the Michelin's. The michelins didnt last long at all, the pirelli's were alright. Any opinion on the Continental 4x4 SportContact in that size?

The 285/45 has a yoko tire that i was going try out, which has a higher treadwear rating then any of the tires in the 275/45 size.

Any comments/opinions.

You need to make sure the tires you are considering can handle the weight of the Cayenne. There are only three to choose from because it is a unique situation with the performance level combined with the weight. They need to be XL rated for the load.

I had the Michelins stock on my 20" wheels. They didn't last long at all. I am now on the Continentals which have 6000 miles on them now, mostly highway, and no sign of wear. I think the treadwear rating is 280 on mine. So far I am very happy with them.

Throw a 5500# pig into a corner and ANY sidewall will give up.

Hey Lewis,
Don't you have a trailer to go rewire so it's compatible with your Excursion? :P
