I have a very late '04 CS with PASM (wouldn't consider a Cayenne without it) and it throws a "faulty workshop" air suspension ! a couple times a month. For some reason the computer does NOT store the code so when I take to the dealer there is nothing for them to find and of course it NEVER does it while they have it. Haven't figured out a pattern but it seems to do it more when it's wet. I just got the durametric software package so the next time it does it while I'm driving I can get the code before shutting it off.
What have others found to be the problem when you get that code???

Take the Cayenne to the local car wash (touchless water and wash only) - then drive it to the dealer and see if it replicates???

FYI - we have a 2004 C-TT, 102,000 miles, no issues as you describe. T2 knocks on wood!!

I had the same issue and it would not show up on the shop's scanner which I find rather disturbing.

As luck would have it the CTT threw the code when I was withing 1/2 mile of the dealership. I drove in and left it running, they brought the scanner out to the car and were able to decipher the code. It turned out to be a drivers side sensor (accelerometer I think).

I think the problem you'll have getting it diagnosed and corrected will be that there are a multitude of sensors that can cause that error and without the code being active in the ECM their system can't track it down.

It sounds rather bogus to me that their history logs can't store that data. Even my motorcycle can do that.

Firehawk, you mention fault code 1772, both Ski and I got the message from the dealer that there were no stored codes. Is that a generic code that doesn't show up in a normal scan?

no not egeneirc but it is a fault that tends to clear when you shut the car off

So, unless you keep the car running and get it to the dealer when these "intermittent" codes show up you're screwed......

Mine did the same thing after a 3 hour drive in the rain. It happened while turning a corner.
I did some research and found the steering position sensor can trigger the code as well.

I didn't pursue resolution as the code went away.

If you can get the code, is the code specific for a particular sensor?- otherwise just with a generic code, how do they know where to go next...
I'm hoping it throws it and I can hook it up to the durametric and get the code without having to run to the dealer. It would probably happen on a Sunday anyway when the dealer wasn't open!

VW have recently issued a "Product Update Circular" aka Recall, for 2004 and 2005 Touaregs with air suspension that exhibit this "workshop" fault. It is Product Update Circular N6.

It is a two-stage update:

Stage 1: Rebuild the air suspension air pump with new rings in the compressor.

If that doesn't solve the problem, then:

Stage 2: Install new air compressor.

porsche has no such bulletion, and air suspension light could come on for other things
sas, level senser, acelerometer ecm ect

I suppose there is an advantage to not having PASM: there is one less thing to go wrong!
