So what is the TSB about the oil scraper rings.

I don't know the issue completely off hand but there is a TSB on the rings.
For those who need insurance and are racers, this guy is the best http://www.dysonanalysis.com/
Will give you a complete oil report and will give you the scoop on the health of your motor + advice all on spread sheet.
A lot of professionals in racing and oil industry use him, super cool guy. Something like $50, just have your dealer fill the container midway thru the drain cycle when the oil is "hot"<(Important) and send it in.
I would do an analysis if you are knocking bad or blowing major smoke.

the rings are typically put on with an automatic insertion machine. one of the first problems with these machines was operators loading the rings in the cassette upside down. the two solutions to this (supposed to be used in combo) were obvious markings from the supplier and machine vision technology to check the bevel direction on the rings once they were inserted. the cassettes typically held enough rings to do 50-100 pistons.
from the sound of this, they ran for a while without the cameras and it bit them on the ***. (this is pure speculation based on the technologies i know for this process. perhaps they are using kebler elfs instead) the equivocation in the TSB would be because some of the rings got loaded right, some of them wrong. this, by the way, is exactly the same problem i had on my audi. nice to know german production methods haven't moved forward in the last 10 years....
