Default Blown Engine 2005 CS

Noticed a rhythmic noise in the engine last weekend - much like the sound you hear when there isnt enough oil in the car - so I checked the oil and it was fine. Brought her into Manhattan Motors Cars and have been informed that one or more of my piston rings have broken (?) and the engine needs to be replaced. I have about 28k miles on the truck and don NOT drive it like its stolen. Thought it was kind of strange. FIgured a problem like this wud have turned up earlier if at all. Thank God the car is under warranty. Wonder how long it takes to get the new block and install it

Dont they just R&R the motor like on 996-997 cars? thats probably going to happen to you. You'll end up with a new(refurbished?) motor. But I dont know very much about Cayennes

what does R&R mean? She seemed to imply they were shipping a motor to me from Germany.

Remove and Replace. Yea you'll probably end up with a new motor. Its less labor intensive for them to do that. Then they ship your motor back to the fatherland and rebuild it there.

No one gets a new motor or tranny from PAG.
Everything replaced under warranty is remanufactured.

Wow, 2 05's with blown motors, what gives?

Wasn't there a TSB on faulty oil scraper rings posted a while back that pertained to 03-04 models? I don't know if this just increased oil consumption?

Don't tell me Larry took the pallet of rings over before his passing and dumped them into the 05 loop

This is the first V8 I have heard to let go..

Hamiam, good luck with the new motor, let us know how she runs after the install and thanks for posting.

Apparently it's a pretty rare event... my dealer which sells A LOT of Cayennes only had my V6 engine blow and 2 or 3 V8's... Either way Porsche's and the dealer's turnaround time was very surprising considering the work that had to be done...

Ahem. I am burning oil in my 05 CS, and smoking badly at startup and I have 32k miles. No performace issues. I am documenting my oil consumption for one or two gas fill-ups before I get too excited. Did you have any signs before she blew.

So what is the TSB about the oil scraper rings.

The only warning sign I got is the engine knocking badly on my way home. When I got home I decided it might be safer to call 1-800-PORSCHE and get it towed. Dealer determined at that point that the engine was blown and took it from there...

Car would also die occasionnaly at startup when cold...
