Default Next Step for System Error Amplifier CD code Error

The Cayenne has been at the dealer a week. They charged $225 to reroute the fiber optic cable (all labor). Got the same error 1 hour after I left the dealership.

They say next is to swap out the CD changer...Does this make any sense? Other suggestions out there?

The error that flashes on the nav screen is System Error CD Changer Amplifier Not Available. Nav works fine but no audio from cd's, nav or radio.

This has been discussed I know but I don't recall a solution ever being found?

Fault finding this is quite hard, re-routing the fiber is ok any kink could break it. It can also be the fiber interface on one of the components

Had that and they replaced the PCM which solved the issue. The next option if that didn't fix it was to replace the amp. Step two was not needed in my case.

This MOST stuff really seems complicated.

From what I've learned here in the forum from the experts (you know, the ones who always have their panties in a bunch and defend the pig against all criticism and attacks......), MOST is sort of like those really cheap XMAS tree lights.....one goes out they all go out.

So, assuming that PIWIS thing can't diagnose a MOST ring down to the node level (I love technical talk), they could try something a bit more primitive.....like jumper out the CDC (with a Porsche supplied MOST jumper thingy), then if that isn't it, try jumpering out the amplifier....and if that isn't it, replace the headunit.

Of course I'm just talking out of my butthole, since i'm not an expert, but I am willing to learn.

Now if Larry were still alive, he could simply plug in a laptop, issue a few diagnostics commands and get the exact node that has disappeared from the ring and diagnose the problem in about 30 seconds.......then again, the designers always seem to know their creations better than anyone.

P.S. Tell your dealer to give you back your $225.

Default Big Help Needed

The new news....they ran the jumper cable to bypass the CD and that didn't work. They now claim it is an amplifier.

My questions...can it really be the amp if it is an intermittent problem? They said there is power going into the amp but not coming out.

Isn't $1,695 just a BIT ridiculous price to pay to have an amp swapped out?

Do I have other options? Would any amp work or does it have to be Pmoney stuff?

I was just looking there. About $200 used. My concern would be why are they on ebay? Not many will offer guarantees on a used part will they?

Would you trust this amp? No returns/refunds but claims to be 100% working order and tested before it leaves...

I would think...no that's too easy a target...

After 4 years one might expect that the gremlins were all dead...guess not.
