Default 40K service

Hi, any thoughts on what the 40K service should contain on a 2005 Turbo?

What about pricing ranges?

I called the local dealer and I think it was $1300 + $500 for spark plug change (optional). Any reason that spark plugs are $500 and what would it take to change them myself? (I have changed spark plugs on my Audi and it cost $20 for the plugs and about 20 mins of work).

Many thanks!

At 40k you get an oil change, pollen filter, spark plugs (you'll probably need coils if they haven't been replaced before) and you should do air filters due to age (4 years). To do spark plugs on these you have to remove the plastic engine compartment covers, coil covers, secondary air pumps, and passenger side motor mount. Most shops charge about 2.5 hours for plugs. Where are you located and which dealership said $1800??

I am in Boston MA, and the dealership that gave me this quote is Herb Chambers in downtown Boston. Their prices are known to be on the higher side so that's why I am asking here...

Would the $500 spark plug change include the coils or would those be additional? I don't think they were ever changed. So it looks to me from your message that the plugs are definitely not a DYI item?

Thanks!

The plugs and the coil packs are definitely a DIY item. There are several threads and someone (mudman ?) has a writeup on the process.

The service should be about $1300 including plugs plus the coils which are about $60 each from Porsche. Call a local Porsche independent and get a price from them. The coils/plugs can be a DIY job but you need E-torx sockets and triple square sockets. It would probably take the average person half a day to do.

...reasonable good dealer charges about $750 for any Cayenne "major service"=40Kmi service...
OK dealers may charge about $900...
...everything above such amount is a dealer attempt to abuse you, as a customer...

...spark plugs and coils are not that difficult DIY job...On a 2003-2006 Cayennes it was 1-2 h for handy man with tools. Starting 2008 Cayennes PORSCHE AG deliberately complicated such procedure, which now requires removal of other above mentioned unrelated components...

...if you go for that to dealer, reasonable charge should be expected: about $300 labor+parts:coils&plugs...
...for parts call sunsetimports.com parts dept. and ask parts at "dealercost+15%" price...

OMG where are you guys located. Plugs are at 60K unless coils went. Cost should be $700.

I thought plugs are at 40K for the Turbo model...no idea of the coils...

Looked at all the parts required (other than oil change), they are $352 from Pelican (2 air filters, one heavy duty cabin filter, 8 spark plugs, 8 coils, 2 spark plug seals)...

Are there DYI instructions for 40K service? I'd love to work on this myself and just take it in for the oil change.

Coils are only if broken (you would know) The oil change is easy, especially with air suspension if you can slide under in Special high mode. The cabin filter is a 5 minute job, its above the passenger side footwell

Try shopping the parts, Sunsetimports.com are always good

We have a DIY thread on the cabin filter, a 10 min. job if you take a 5 min. beer break in the middle.

Cabin Air Filter DIY

Edit: added thread link
