Hey everyone this is my first post and I am looking for advice on a potential purchase.
There is a 2008 Cayenne S near by for $53k
- 41k miles
- Pre-owned Porsche Certification
- Basalt Black
- Dark Chestnut interior
- Sport Exhaust
- Air Suspension
- 20" GTS wheels
- parking senors (front and back)
- clear bra

compared to the other options in the area it seems like the best vehicle for me.

since i was about 5 years old my dream car has been a 911 but a cayenne is more practical right now. i am upgrading from my fully loaded grand cherokee and would love to hear all of your opinions on the vehicle and recommendations.

What would be a reasonable offer on the vehicle listed above?

These are suggested dealer retails that i found:
NADA suggests $49K
Kelly Blue Book suggests $51.5k
Edmunds suggests $47k

One of the other vehicles around (there are very few 08 cs) is $53k as well.

So the first vehicle that i mentioned seems like a much better vehicle (in my opinion).

doesn't that millage sound really high for an '08? I bought my 04 with just 57k

Based on these figures you provided, assuming they are accurate, yes, $40k would be a reasonable offer/good place to start but I wouldn't move much up from that.

And KBB and NADA, in particular, are always WAY high with suggest retail figures.

Plus look at it like this...they probably bought the P!g at auction for around $35-37k and then figure $2k for CPO. Do you really think the dealer deserves a $10k markup. Don't think so...ask them to show you their purchase information from the auction. If they think you're serious, they might show it to you. Serious

Exactly, it's like 9k miles away from factory warranty expiration.

But in short 41k miles is pretty high even though the car is only 2yrs old IMHO.

is the original factory warranty much better than the CPO?
The vehicle went into service aug 2007 so the CPO will last till aug 2013 or 100k.

As far as the car coming from an auction, they were telling me that it belonged to one of their regular customers, and he traded it in on a different porsche (given the vin # from the new vehicle).

As far as the mileage goes, i know that it is a little high. if you figure the car was first serviced in aug 2007 it has almost been on the road for 2.5 years and given an average of 12k per year, it should have around 30k so it is high on the miles.

Dealers DO NOT use above, the only source they use galves.com and Manheim auction results...

wirunner, you are suggesting to start too low...

Auction/wholesale/tradein current price for the above is $41-43K (galves.com). Add $7K to get retail, add cpo, substract millage and condition, if not excellent...

...car has good color combo/wheels and air...

Drive the car and see, how it feels...

+1 Galves and Manheim are the 2 that are used most. $40K is really too low. If it is CPO'ed than I think that low 50's makes sense.

When I was looking around for my '09, dealers had new 08 S models that were being sold at just a bit over the price on the one you've found. New, as in zero miles. My lawyer bought one, he's pretty happy with it. His only complaint is the rear end gets too dirty on his 12 miles dirt road.

$7K?! You're suggesting the dealer should make $7k on a used P!G sale...you're either the sales person or not a savvy shopper. Don't hate, just saying.

And to re-iterate how correct I am I did an autotrader search in the Chicago area and there are LOTS of 08 CS for sale with similar equipment and far less miles for...HOLD ON...retail asking prices of $42-$51k. Agreed a CPO retail price s/b around $2k and my suggested starting point seems...right on!

Better than any website is what other places are actually asking. That's called "market price"...just expand your search radius.

CPO search on Porsche's website has 27 CPO'ed CS's for sale. Range is 48.9K - 59.9K. CPO costs more than 2K too. The car in that you are looking at has alot of equip, so that may call for a higher price. But I would rather get a lower mileage one, with a few lesser options. Just my 2 cents.

Don't know 08 prices, but you could easily get an 06 with those options for $35k.

FWIW, Carmax in Kansas has a white 08 w/ Pano Roof, only 20K miles, for $47k. That gives you roughly 2 more years under factory warranty, and if you wanted to add the Carmax extended, I think it would only be around $2 grand.
