Philly Cayenne

Sorry if this was answered here before but I searched...

I am selling my 4.4 X5 and hopefully will be getting into 04 Cayenne S this or next week.
I found one with 44K miles, fully loaded with Navi, etc. 2 previous owners looks like new in and out for $24K

Can someone tell me what I should check before I buy this car? Any known problems with this year cars?
Also, is it possible to get a full list of options for this car if I have a VIN?

Coils and coolant tubes seem to be the real big issues. I'm sure that others will chime in.

for coolant tubes is it possible to check it visually when picking up the car or will I need to remove the engine cover, etc?

Make sure you get a thorough pre-purchase inspection (PPI) from a third party who knows Cayennes. Also, it's really good to have the service records. I wouldn't buy one without them. You'll really want to make sure all the Technical Service Bulletins (TSBs) have been performed. Check the manufacture date also, if possible. The later they are in the 2004 build cycle, the better. Personally, I wouldn't buy one manufactured in 2003.

Don't be afraid to walk away if something isn't right. A 2004 Cayenne can be very good if properly maintained, updated, etc. It can also be a money pit that you will regret buying. If you do your homework and be patient, you have a better chance of not ending up in the latter category.

P!G's, especially early builds, are great! They have lots of character. If you find one built in 2003, you might get lucky enough to have other exciting characteristics (besides the "usual" coils, coolant tubes, cardan shafts) like wild transmission shifting resulting from a failed valve body or TCU that doesn't just shift from 1-2, it slams itself into 2nd gear.

Rock on and good luck. I'd recommend putting an additional 24k aside for repairs! J/K But under all circumstances get service history and post here before you buy so us "experts" (aka victims) can chime in from the peanut gallery...

I just heard that Porsches have the best dependability for MY 2007. I'd hold out for one of those.

If I had Photoshop, I would have replaced the "diver" (aka: owner) with a 2010 Transsyberian Edition Cayenne...somehow I think that would have been more appropriate, at least for some forum members (names withheld by request)
