Default Need a point in the right direction

Well guys, Mommy is in need of a newer suv. She likes the Porsche and was looking at a 2006 but saw where they changed engines and wanted to get a little insite on that. Should we look for the 2008 or should we go with the S where the engine stayed the same? Thanks, Tim

Well, I'm a little confused by your post. All the engines changed from 06-08. The V-6 is now direct injection, 3.2L to 3.6L, 250hp & 230ft lb to 290hp & 285ftlb. The "S" is direct fuel injection, 4.5L to 4.8L, 340hp & 311ftlb to 385hp & 370ftlb. The "turbo" also has direct fuel injection, 4.5L to 4.8L, 450hp & 459ftlb to 500hp & 518ftlb. So the "S" did not stay the same! Is mommy your mom or your wife?

I believe the '06 is still 340HP. The larger engine was introduced on the 2008.

No, not correct 1st gen Cayenne 03-06, all models. 2nd Gen Cayenne (DFI, 3.6L and 4.8L) 08- to present. The 07 was a very very top secret project, only a few were produced Thats the Pig you want, an 07 baby

As I'm also in the market, I drove a used 06 CS and a used 08 CS back-to-back on Saturday and the 08 was noticably more powerful. Not so much on overall power, but the tip-in was much better. What I mean is in a 50-70 passing situation, the 08 felt much quicker from 50-55. Once they both got up a head of steam, the 06 was fine, but it was a little doggy right on tip-in. I didn't back-to-back stopwatch them or anything. This is also based on just one example of each, so I may have just gotten a dog of an '06.

No-no, your *** dyno did not lie. The 2nd gen DFI cars are more responsive like you noted. If push the "Sport" button, the E-throttle mapping will be more aggressive yet.

Do the 08+ DFI engines have the same oil consumption concerns as the 997 engines? I realize there is basically nothing in common across the lines, but is the oil consumption issue somehow common to the engine design using direct injection, or do I have nothing to worry about (oil consumption-wise that is) in buying an 08+ CS or CTT?

go read some of the reviews of the gen 2 versions and they cover the changes pretty well

i would suggest gen 2 although the 2006 titanium editions are nice examples of the gen 1
