Default "Four Wheel Drive System Faulty" Light coming on

I just started seeing this light come on every time I start the vehicle. It goes off after a couple of seconds, but of course I see "trip to the dealer" flashing in my head. The switch in the center console seems to be complete inoperable.

04CS with 95K miles. Live in San Diego, no cold weather issues. Out of warranty.

Any suggestions would be great before I venture down to the dealer.

I understand a bad battery can cause all kinds of strange things to happen. May want to check this first. Just a thought. Good luck.

Battery

Faulty/Dirty/Wet/Intermittent electrical connector

If you have the original battery in an 04 P!g, I would definitely change it now.

I like the idea of a new battery! I believe that it is the original one. Would you guys recommend Interstate or something else? I used to run Interstate in my 911's and had pretty good luck. Now need to break out owners manual and find out where the bloody thing resides!

Literally.... Under the driver's seat.

The seat unbolts in the front and tilts backwards to provide access. Or, you can do the hard route like me and remove the seat entirely.

I have to unbolt the seat to get to the battery?? I am cracking up right now!

Any suggestions as to what type of battery I should get? I have not had to deal with something like this in a while. I am sure a Porsche battery is double any of the others out there.

The Porsche battery is about $200 - $250 if I recall. I don't know if aftermarket options exist TBH.

The seat isn't too bad, just goofy. Remove two plastic trim pieces on the floor in front of the seat and you have access to the seat bolts. I *think* they are the Triple-square type of bolts so a trip to Sears may be in order.

Great.
Just went to Sears and they did not have the battery nor the right tool to get those bolts out. Porsche strikes again!

Ok, so get this. Called the dealer and they sell both Porsche as well as Interstate batteries. Interstate = $230, ready to go. Porsche battery, $340 and you have to add the acid yourself!

Has anyone looked into the Bosch batteries -- I get them from Pep Boys.

I am not sure who makes them. Have them in my SL and Jag -- both trunk mount with vent.

They are only $95.00 -- They were direct replacements for both. Also BMW.

I forget what I put in my 01TT but from PB

They have a two or three year direct replacement - although I have never used it.
