Exactly how much water did he add to it?
Was it smoking from under the hood or out of the tail pipes?
No water in the oil (I am presuming from dip stick examination), and therefore I assume no oil in the water (which would normally be antifreeze, depending on the answer to the above question).
Are you sure it's oil leaking from the bottom of the motor?
If in fact it is, and there is no water in the oil and no oil in the water, I am going to assume cracked coolant tubes and hopefully you didn't lose the bottom end of the engine.
Crawl underneath the P!g and see if you can see a con rod ... if you can, just set it on fire and walk away.
BTW, you didn't mention mileage or any previous history...which can sometimes be helpful ...

S has 102K miles on it. Never had any problems before. About once a year I needed to top off the coolant, other than that it just ran perfect! Had I been driving it and not my son, the motor would have been saved. It's important to teach your teen drivers what to do in case of overheating problems. My mechanic said had he just pulled over would have saved the motor. Expensive lesson! I will say this car had been the best car I've ever owned. It does so much, and has been very versatile in it's use. I was sure I'd get another 100K out of it!
Porsche should cover the motor under the extended customer loyalty warranty, if not to keep a rare seal grey cayenne S on the road , just for this post; No questions asked.
Bravo.

(If I'm right, BTW, Pops sells me his/her car, instead of to Lewis' widow's current cougar bait.)
If your mechanic is right, your son had to have seen some other messages, like "Oil Temperature High", etc.?
Couldn't agree more. You and me both, on the 200K mile goal.

I'm going all-in, without looking at my cards on this one: I call coolant pipes, and I'll even predict your engine survives. This line above screams 'hairline fracture' to me, starting at the 40K - 50K miles mark. 7+ year-old car, 15K/year, probably developed slowly over the last three or four years.

I believe you meant to say Larry's widow.
BTW, I prefer "man ho", but cougar bait has potential.
I asked Larry, the world's foremost P!g Whisperer about the engine.
He just muttered "paperweight".

My son had been driving the car all day. He went through a half tank of gas that day. He was driving back to Newport from Chino Hills and had pulled over in Anaheim when the "add coolant" light came on he added three bottles of water to the resevior and said the temp gauge had climbed to the 3/4 mark. As he was driving home he hit traffic on the 73 and that's when things started to heat up again. Once he merged onto the 73 and out of traffic the needle swept up to the top of the temp gauge (this is when he should have pulled right over) instead he drove an xtra 3 miles to try to make it home. This is when the motor started to steam and smoke. When he exited the off ramp it died about a half mile later and had to push the car into the pavilions shopping center. So it was the let three miles that did it in!

Best of luck with the repair.
