Default Why are there BMW ads in Rennlist?

I was just doing the nightly scan and saw that BMW has posted ads in the window you see above.

Some nonsense about customizing your X-5, click here......

I know it is a free country. Why doesn't PCNA have banner ads here? I might be tempted to try out one of those nice looking X5 diesels......

It's based on your search history. As I've been searching for a replacement car for my wife's BMW 328 Conv. I've been getting BMW and Infinity banner ads.

Still not nearly as bad as after I clicked on a link Pops posted in a OT thread with jeans from one of those NYC high end clothing stores. For weeks afterwards I was getting banner ads for those metro-sexual clothing stores, glad those have stopped.

Found it. Click on this link and see what banner ads you get afterwards...

All of these ads are served by third party firms, not typically by the site in question (unless it is a huge site like Amazon, etc.). The way they make their money is they track all of the places your PC/browser goes and then make an educated guess about which ads to serve (these are the ones you are likely to click on). That is how the ad companies get paid - by clicks.

Bad link, Bill. But let me help you, and men of RL, out by providing the correct one

And as far as the BMW ads.

I wasn't going to click on it a second time. I just copied it from the other thread.

Deleting your cookies from your web browser will help somewhat.

I hereby commit to clicking every single link posted by Pops... in hopes of similarly entertaining ads!

OK, I am busted. I was curious about the new BMW X-5's and had to take a peek. Did not realize that Rennlist was so big brother friendly and now i am stuck with the ads forever. Lesson learned.

Don't you keep one computer "pure" for Porsche only surfing and another one for everything else?

Bien sur!

The Porsche info has enough stimulation.
And for virtual violence we have the P!G pen!
