Used 2004 CS, goes only 280miles
Used 2004 CS, goes only 280miles or 450km. Had this car for 2 months and I'm thinking something is wrong with the mileage ... I drive this car until the gas is empty and it gets really crappy mileage. There are no leaks, I fill up with octane 91, recently oil change was done, fuel injector cleaner was put in and no warning indicators. Car is in mint condition.

280/20 = 14 MPG. If you're doing primarily around-town driving, and you're not running the tank (24 gallon capacity IIRC) dry - that's pretty much normal. I got 19.5 MPG in a 8,500 mile coast-2-coast-2-coast trip. Best mileage observed was a bit > 20MPH at a constant speed (around 75) on level ground, using the cruise control. If you do around town a lot, or are enthusiastic with the fun pedal - your mileage sounds absolutely normal.

Good lord if I hit 225 miles per tank of 93 octane I think it's good. Ussualy in the 200 MPT club. I do beat her though. May have something to do with it. I have never seen 400 per tank. even straight highway from PA to Fl once a year I see maybe 325 per tank around 70 mph

ECU S/W update?
TCU S/W update?
Cracked coils leading to fouled plugs?
Alignment ?
Cayenne overweight due to the weight of the water in the horns and rear spoiler?
All known issues you can easily track down and address if you really believe there is a problem.

I don't bother to check anymore, if I'm concerned about mileage I take the M3 or the 993.

Logic seems to dictate, if you want better mileage for in town driving, get a car for fuel efficiency.
If you want the fun of the CS, you have to pay the premium.
Your choice - emotion or logic.

I KNEW it was a trick question.
The answer is to buy the Cayenne Diesel ..., wait, what's that, Dr. W. said NEVER...
OK, then buy the Cayenne Hybrid ...., wait, what's that? FIIRE?
OK, then buy the Touareg Diesel....extra credit if you can get a V10 TDi .

As has been said, 14mpg is normal short range around town, city driving . On a decent highway run I get about 16.5, used to be 17.5-18.5 back in the day when she was younger. 11.5 when towing a beast.
