Question about Brake pads 04CS
Hey folks,
It's time for me to replace the pads on the front/rear of my 04CS. Is there a good aftermarket low dust alternative or should I just go with OEM pads. Also, what about the sensors. should they be replaced at the same time? (I've already received "notice" on the dash that its time) if that makes a difference in materials.
thanks in advance for any help or suggestions

Well...everyone has a personal preference on this one. I prefer Hawk or EBC for pads. My personal opinion is they have a lot less dust.
I replace the sensors every brake job and the clips/springs every other. I also replace the rotor's every other brake job.

thanks for the reply... do the EBC or hawk pads require any "tweaking" to make them work? or do they fit and install just like the OEM pads? I remember reading somewhere that some pads had to be modified to accommodate the sensors or something like that...

No...I have never had to ]"tweak" them...Now I have experienced some size difference with manufactures of the brake sensors. Some seemed a touch shorter than my Pelican ones. Here is a great link/tutorial "how to"

I originally went with some Hawk Ceramics, under advice on the Forum. Unfortunately, they were really, really squeaky. So much that I changed 'em out after only 1500 miles. Rather than running the risk of another prob, I just went with the OEM pads. And, yes, you have to change out the sensors...they're cheap.

Thats too bad you had problems with you Hawk pads. I have never had any problems so far. I am running EBC ones right now and they are quiet and grab pretty aggressively.

Brakes are consumables, so you are either going to use up the pads and create dust or you are going to use up the rotors, less dust, the choice is yours. Personally a weekly cleaning mitigates the dust issue, I use Eagle 1 in combination with my professional model Karcher power washer and only use my hands for drying. I appreciate the experimenters, but I stick with OEM parts for brakes.

Was there ever a ceramic rotor option for older Cayennes? The yellow calipers... just drove a friend's 997 with these. I could touch the rotors after we got out.

FWIW: I have been using Centric pads from Zackhausen Racing for years on an '04. Practically no dust, which is the reason I changed as soon as the low dust pads became available. IIRC, it was a couple of years before anyone made low dust pads for the Cayenne.

I also am using Centric brand Posi-Quiet pads (semi-metallic) all the way around. Very satisfied with them. Very little brake dust and they are Scorched so they need no break-in. You do not have to resurface the rotors if they are straight. No noise and brakes better than the OEM pads.

I went with EBC Blue compound pads. Quiet but dusty. Great braking performance. About to go with Powerslot rotors and pads all the way around. Will see how that goes. OEM pads sounded like a damn schoolbus everytime i pressed the brake pedal. Embarassingly loud
