I'm very happy with V1 -- used it for many years, and sent it in a couple of times for upgrades. I find the directional indicator a big advantage over other units.

V1, easy to connect into Cayenne too. However, I do wonder why they have not changed their technology in many years. Odd for any technology to stay competitive. I wonder when their arrow patent expires.

Rumor has it that Escort is going to roll-out a new system "Escort Live" at SEMA this winter which may make its product very attractive. The speculation is that it will basically take radar activity reported by other Escort detectors, and alert you when you get in range of an active speed trap (i.e. before your detector would normally go off). See: http://www.radardetector.org/escort-live/
It basically involves purchasing an enhanced version of their Smart Cord to work.

Laser DETECTION - only detects when you have a ticket (should the cop decide you are worth it). Laser beem at 1000 ft is only about 30 inches wide and they are sighting through a gun site directly at the shiniest part of your cr (typically headlights). You need a JAMMER. Escort 9500 is an OK jammer, Laser Defense Pro or Laser Intercepter are even better.
The V1 is a great RADAR detector, but laser detection is absolutely worthless. We actually own police laser guns and test the different ones at least once every 60 days with various changes and such.

I love the V1; I have one in each of my 3 cars. I wouldn't want to be without it's directional radar detetection feature, but that just me. As for laser, as mentioned in the previous post, by the time your detector goes off, you're already pretty much toast.

I have a V1 (latest software version), 9500, and K40 w/Laser jammer. I would take the Escort out of all of them. The V1 and Escort have about the same ranges but the Escort with built in GPS is about a step ahead of the V1. A lot less false alarms with the Escort and it learns w/GPS positioning and it has the traffic camera memory which is USB updateable. If I lived out in the middle of nowhere I might go for the V1 over the Escort 9500, might I say. The arrows are great and I wish the Escort had them but when I was down to commuting with one car for a few months I pulled the V1 out and stuck the Escort in after a couple of weeks. I do part highway and part city/rural driving on my way to work and the Escort with much less false alarms is the better. If it was all Highway I might have stayed with the V1. It is about time for Valentine to update and there are rumours of such but they haven't updated in 5 years and the Escort surpassed them.

Have had the Beltronics R65 fro several years, nice thing about them is its easy to see which type of radar/laser is hitting you x=safety, K=police or grocery store/gas station, Ka= Police. It has been a very good detector for me. However, if you want to mount it on a visor you're going to have problems as the buttons are on the top. It's stupid they don't have a better visor mount for the config of the detector. I have it mounted to the windshield glass.

V1, bought one earlier this year, love it! The arrows make the difference. However I wish it was easier to see what type (x/K/Ka) was lighting you up. Yes there are (small) lights on the detector but they're tough to see esp. at night. I also wish it had a dimmer feature for night driving. First class windshield mount.

Edit: Should have said it's easy to see the LED's it's just difficult to tell which band it's associated with (they're grouped too close).

I still use both, neither one is perfect but I drive w/ the V1 if I'm going to be lead-footing it.

I also use a Bel RX-65 Driver. It's a very good unit. Where I live, traffic flow and speed is monitored on the major highways using K-Band radar. It causes multiple false alerts that can be very frustrating. Bel and Escort units offer a feature called "TSR" that prevents false alerts from these traffic flow sensors. The V1 doesn't offer this feature, so it's really not an option for me. I would like to get some kind of a laser jammer or shifter though...

Passport 9500 here. It's best advantage is that it learns falses and shuts them out.

As far as laser is concerned, the others are right, if they target your car, it's too late without a jammer. However, if they target someone else first, you will pick up the scatter and may have time to slow down.

If you go the Passport route, I have a very nice mount that I'm not using (mounts it from the Mirror), I will give you a good price on it.

I have the K40 built in. It works really great, also it has a laser diffuser in the front.

I've been an Escort fan for life. I have the 9500 now and I love. It has paid for itself 10x over.

THense, your white gauges are bad ***!

A little more info on the Escort Live product coming soon and how it will work:

http://www.radardetector.org/reviews/escort-live/

Unfortunately, it looks like a hard-wire option won't be available for several months; also it will rely on having a lot of Escort/Bel owners, with smart phones (i.e. iPhones or Androids), who are willing to buy the enhanced Smart Cord, for it to really work. But, if that happens, it could be very useful. Sort of the 21st century version of the CB radio craze back in the day.
