Default More probs for me.

I had the coolant pipes replaced several months ago on my '04 CS, to the tune of $2k. Since that repair, I've picked up a nasty screeching sound (intermittently) when starting the engine. Obviously, I think I need a starter now. If that weren't enough, this morning I noticed a puddle/stream of light red fluid on my garage floor. My guess here is that I need to replace the torque converter pump seal. Ugh.

Any thoughts?? Any chance I'm gonna have this done for under a hundred bucks?

I wanna puke.

Were the coolant pipes replaced proactively or because they failed?

Ya. They failed; coolant dumping out as fast as I could pour it in.

Any word on the re-man starters? I've priced a few on eBay and found several in the $200 neighborhood. I'm hoping to control the expenses here, although the labor appears to be the lion's share.

Ive done it in reverse.

My starter finally failed (squeel on startup for about 6mths) so I replaced it but still had the plastic pipes. I didnt need to remove them to replace the starter.

Then 6months later the main platic pipe split and I have just upgraded the pipes myself again.

And now 2 weeks later my cadan shaft bearing support has gone.

Soon it will be a new Cayenne!

So the starter can be replaced without pulling the coolant tubes??

I believe so, though not sure where the 2nd bolt is (wasn't looking for it when I did the job).
Pics from my coolant pipe upgrade:
First is with original pipes removed.
2nd is with new pipes installed (w/ tape on starter electrical connections and on head intakes).

You may have to unbolt the thermostat housing to move the upper 3 pipes out of the way, but you shouldn't have to mess with the lower pipe to get the starter out.

If you do remove the thermostat housing remember to replace the (metal) housing gasket.

Yes, it definitely doesn't like to be reused.

Sorry to hear about your issues PokerJarvis..from the little research I did with the same issue it seemed that the remanufactured starters were what most people went with that had to do the replacement out of pocket. I would feel pretty confident going that route if I were you.

My starter has been acting funky since I first got the car, changing the battery helped.

But I still have some problems.

At this point, I am waiting till it dies, in my life I never have to be somewhere important enough that I will be upset if the car doesn't start.
