Default Porsche CPO - is it worth it?

As many of you know, I am on the hunt for an '08 turbo and have looked at a ton of vehicles. I found a very nice CPO '08 at a dealer, but the price is about $8-10K higher than a comparable one, even from another dealer.

My question is this- what else in addition to the 2 year/ 50k mi warranty do the CPO vehicles come with? Or is that all there is?

It appears that for the additional $8-10k saved somewhere else, I could have a nice repair/maintenance fund in the bank.

Thoughts?

Best,
TomF

good question. 8-10k is a lot if the cars are similar.

IMO the CPO is the best out there. No deduct and covers virtually everything.
A dealer charges anywhere b/w 2400-2900 for the CPO, so you can break it down.

Also, a CPO car has to go thru an inspection. While minor accidents are ok, PNA will not CPO major one.

Thanks Kosmo. This dealer is fantastic and I have had nothing but good experiences with them. I have never had a warranty on a Porsche (or any other car) before, and thought I'd consider it.

Who is the aftermarket warranty company that everyone likes again?

The warrantee aspect is great, but don't expect a meticulous car in all cases. I've checked out several low priced CPO cars at Parkplace in Dallas and those definitely had more superficial damage and wear. I guess nothing big, but it makes me wonder. The Fort Worth Porsche dealer told me that the Carfax will be clean if that matters.

i think CPO cars can i have any many as 2 body panels painted. More than that, PCA will not allow.
Carfax is a joke. I only thing I find useful is the # of owners.

I just remembered the aftermarket company all the guys on the 911 side of Rennlist use- Fidelity. As I am considering a CT that has 42k on the clock, and it is a CPO, I could purchase the Fidelity warranty and carry it forward to about 100k or 4 years, if I read the fine print correctly. The CPO coverage will give me 92k and 2 years. Not sure of the extra cost for the Fidelity at this point, but an extended warranty would be great. After 32 years of wrenching on my own cars, I wouldn't mind paying for the break!

Cheers,
TomF

CPO actually gives you two years or up to 100,000 miles on the odometer.

I have an '06 and did an extended warranty that has now expired on years. I did "win" with it but I also had to get the coolant pipes and other things done that still lingered at this age range of P!G. I think the 08 and laters really are pretty solid and I don't think that the difference in price range is "worthy". however, like most of these type deals, if you buy it, you won't need it and if you don't, you'll probably end up with some big repair. I think it really is your ability to pay for a high priced repair and your risk tolerance. Porsches are expensive and if you have some manf. defect that causes a big problem, it is expensive but in today's world, those type of problems are far fewer than cars built 20-30 years ago. Good Luck -- evaluate your risk and the options on this car vs. others and go for it. You won't regret a cayenne unless you have total electrical failure and have to tape flashlights to the front of the vehicle to exit the racetrack with your 911 in the trailer..... (long story see the thread)!!

Wow, $8-10K difference? That's huge for any automobile. In November I picked up a nicely optioned CPO 2012 V-6 tip with 18K miles and paid just at KBB. Porsche even put new tires on it. So, I can't see how an 08 Turbo CPO is worth $8-10k more than book.

The add-on cost sounds out-of-line by 2X or more.

yes, the CPO is normally $2-3K

I recently stole an '09 Turbo S... CPO and paid 20% less than 3rd party retail NADA

Thanks for all the comments. I am inclined to forego the CPO route unless I can get a really good deal. There seem to be a lot of nice '08s coming on the market recently.

$20k in out-of-pocket repairs? And $7k more for the pano?

Apart from a brand new, crated engine block, there is nothing on mine worth sinking $7k, let alone $3k. Instead, I would double-down and drop $20K on another used one and take my chances on the sum of the parts before investing that much.

But maybe my logic is flawed.

CPO = Certified Pre Owned? Is this what were talking about? I remember when dealers changed the term from Used cars to CPO. I think is is all BS. What I mean, is that anyone can provide a good inspection. Even if you hired a mechanic to go through all the inspection points, is it really worth it? I don't know, CPO is not for me.

CTT? What does this stand for? CTTS = Cayenne TT Sport???

I couldn't locate it in the sticky admin terms
