Default Porsche mechanics in Cleveland, OH

Dear Enthusiasts,

I am very new to the forum and recently got a used 2012 Cayenne. I need help with some repairs and the dealer is trying to rip me off.

With that, can you recommend a good and economical mechanic/mechanics in the Cleveland, OH area.

Thanks in advance.

I go to Porsche North Olmsted when I am too busy or if it is something I can't do myself. They have always treated me very well.

I can't say the same for the other dealer in town though I know people who use them all the time.

Steinel's is probably the #1 indie in the state. He has done some work for me and he knows his stuff, prices are much better than the dealer. In the summer his shop is wall to wall race and track cars. Eric is a great guy, if he was closer I would probably use him more often.

I haven't worked with Chris at Autobahn Extremist but he does seem to be a fairly nice guy and his business seems to be growing. His ad has been in the local PCA newsletter for as long as I can remember.

Did you pay for a diagnosis? Maybe it is something you can do yourself or shop the diagnosis with other indie mechanics for the best price. I know that I won't take my Touareg to any of the local VW dealers, one cannot even make a good seal on a new set of tires, another charged me for a brake job and only replaced the rotors. Most shops that specialize in German cars can handle just about anything that goes wrong with my Touareg.

Feel free to PM me if you would like.

The assclowns at Porsche Beachwood gave me the following quote. BTW - I'm still waiting for a copy of the faultcodes. I'm pissed because a week ago, they told me it was a "computer glitch" and they erased the codes and that there was nothing wrong. The CEL obviously came back.

1) Valve Cover Gasket + Cover: Part # 95 8 105 135 30 ($450.99)
2) Intake Gasket: Part #: 955 110 147 00 ($35.99)
3) Gasket Set X 3: Part #: 955 110 910 00 ($26.99)
4) Secondary Water Pump: Part # 958 106 313 00 ($301)
5) Coolant $69

Grand Total + 8% tax: $2,421

Almost forgot to include labor which is already in the grand total.

For the Valve stuff - labor is $768 and the Water pump is $512.

Based on that, I'd say you probably have a PCV related fault, and a secondary water pump fault. They are planning to remove the intake manifold to access the secondary water pump, which accounts for the intake gasket and the injector gaskets. The PCV is integrated into the valve cover. None of it is particularly difficult work.

2012 Cayenne Base fault codes

Here are the fault codes. Already got part quotes from Suncoast, Sunset and Autohaus AZ for half.

I'm assuming they've diagnosed the lean faults to a faulty PCV valve, and the Coolant Pump 2 is self-explanatory.

Default v-^?

Is your vehicle a V-6? I was getting ready to do same, but can't find any instruction for V-6 valve cover removal.
Thanks!

Another vote for Steinel's! Steinel's is probably more expensive than the dealer but they are extremely detail oriented.

Maybe we should have a Cleveland wrench session.

I drove up from Columbus to Stienels one Saturday morning with a friend to drop off my 997.
There were a total of 5 customers from Columbus that morning in and out.

You can take the ride south a little to Euro Car Service (aka the wrenching portion of ECS Tuning)

+1 for Steinels and a Cleveland wrench day. I've got a durametric pro if anyone needs help on that front.

A DIY for the valve cover gasket on the V6 would be helpful. Mine will eventually need to be replaced unless I can convince one of the dealers to before my CPO warranty is up next April. I changed the plugs 2 years ago and there was some oil on a few.
