In my '14 GTS I had a front diff go out as well as a transfer case (latter covered under warranty). 88k miles.

The car was totally cherry and obviously well-loved. I chalked this up to me being the Bermuda Triangle of cars.

My 04 Cayenne had the cylinder scoring problem. My '13 911 had the PDK take a crap.
I could go on and on about BMWs...even Toyotas... that blew up.

If you are like me, save your pennies for the maintenance bills. If you are a normal person you'll be fine!

I don't really consider 100K or just over to be high mileage on modern cars. I picked up a 2011 S model with 106K this spring. I ironed out a few bugs, changed some fluids, filters, and brakes, and haven't had any more problems. It did have extensive service history with a few larger items. TC replaced under warranty in the 40k range, vacuum pump and evap pump replaced, vacuum lines repaired, dash replaced for peeling leather early on. I've put around 2K miles on it. I don't drive a lot as I work from home and nearly everywhere I go is normally within a few miles of city streets, mainly just a daily daycare run and shopping. I mainly bought it to tow jet skis, which it does flawlessly.

Update: currently at 113,700 miles (2014 GTS). At about 112k miles the low oil light came on, about 2k miles after the last oil change. I think I forgot to mention that this previously happened right before the last oil change after having driven the car for about 5k miles (at the 110k mark). Anyway, I put 2 quarts in. Now almost 2k miles since adding 2 quarts, it is about half a quart low. So in summary, it went through 2 quarts in the first 5k miles I drove the car, then it went through 2 quarts in the next 2k miles, and now on pace for about half a quart of oil over the last 2k miles. There is no blue smoke and the car runs fine. I have done a little research on this and it sounds like these V8's eat up some oil from time to time? I'm just making note of this to keep you guys up to date. If you have any insight I'll gladly take it, but I don't find this concerning yet.

Interesting. Is it possible it wasn't filled all the way when you had the oil change done? I'm less than half your mileage but mine hasn't burned any oil so far.

It was filled to max level after the oil change. Also, one other detail I forgot, there are no drips anywhere, so there are no leaks.

Certainly possible. When in doubt, you can always send in an oil sample. What oil weight are you using? Motul 5w-40 here.

I'd go with a heavier weight at your mileage. 5w-40 is still plenty fine for your climate. That could be why you're seeing some oil consumption.

Yeah, I'm going to mention it to my shop next time and get their thoughts.

Default Service update - 2nd year of ownership

I have completed my 2nd year of ownership of my 2014 Cayenne GTS. I drove about 7k miles this year with the GTS (odometer is just under 117k). I still love this car as much as a did the first day I got it. I love the way it drives and the way it looks, and it's great for toting the kids around, getting to sports practice, and going camping. I just got the GTS back from it's yearly service at the local indy Porsche mechanic - oil change, state inspection, and air filter replacement. I typically replace the all of the air filters myself on my cars, but I couldn't figure out how to disconnect the hose that runs through the air box. Let me know if any of you know, I haven't come across a thread or video yet that details that part. At least the cabin filter was easy enough.

I also mentioned in a previous thread about the oil consumption, probably 1 quart every 2k-3k miles. I asked the service manager about that and he said that is typical for these vehicles, and he has seen many that consume 1 quart per 1k miles. I find it a little odd that these engines consume oil like that, but it is what it is, and I guess it's a small cost to pay for the enjoyment.

As always, I'll you know if anything else comes up. Fingers crossed the GTS continues chugging along.

I did this last year but my memory is foggy; I believe you disconnect that hose from inside the airbox. I remember it being a little tricky to get to but not bad overall; just requires a little patience.

It's a much easier process than it looks. This is for the V6 but, just repeat the process for the other side and, viola, done. Check 2:05 on the vid for the secret sauce. You don't need to actually unplug a connection under the air supply or remove the air tube. Just move it out of the way.
