Wheel and Tire Issues for cayenne 958
HI Guys.
I'm trying to buying a Cayenne around 17 or 18 year model
When I see the Carfax there are something that not really understand some of record.
This car has tire change or mounting a lot. I mean I am not sure this is normal or something problem.
This car has 21 inch turbo wheels and when i asked dealership which is Porsche dealer the owner taking care of that and they have all the record.
I call them and they said this is normal tire change and everything is very normal record.
( I trust dealership because the Porsche dealership not selling this car. This car sell different location.)
Please see the Carfax and I need to you guys opinion.
All the service record from the Porsche dealership
Date mile report My opinion
10/5/18 22,xxx - Four tires balanced / Four tires mounted / Tire(s) replaced - I think the owner change the tires and it looks normal???
12/12/18 27,xxx - Maintenance inspection completed / Tire repaired / Oil and filter changed - I understand that if the owner has flat tire or something else
04/17/19 35,xxx - Maintenance inspection completed / Tire repaired / Wheel(s) repaired / Oil and Filter changed - Well... if there are wheel problem such as driving bad condition road or something else....
06/17/19 40,xxx - Two tires mounted / Two tires balanced / Tire(s) replaced / - The owner already changed two tires since last Dec and Apr so two tires left
11/27/19 54,xxx - Maintenance inspection completed / Four wheel alignment performed / Two tires mounted / Two tires balanced / Oil and Filter changed / Tire(s) replaced - Another two tires change because owner change two tires since 18 Dec
3/6/20 60,xxx - Maintenance inspection completed / Two tires mounted / Two tires balanced / Oil and Filter changed / Tire(s) replaced - Another two tires change because owner change two tires since 19 Jun
Thanks

In any case, I just see that wheels and tires were replaced. I don't see that they were covered under warranty. I'll stand by my previous diagnosis. Someone beat the crap out f those wheels & tires. I'd wonder what else was beat up? Suspension components?
The car might be perfectly fine, or given that level of potential cluelessness, other things might have been abused or neglected. Oil changes? Sheet metal? Scheduled servicing?
Definitely warrants a PPI from a good independent mechanic.

Thanks for your reply
The car location is near Dallas TX.
I spoke the dealership and one of adviser said the car is totally normal service record.
I mean you are right. car will be totally good or something bad and i just want to make sure before i will be buying.
Especially i have the vibration on the highway but most of people said 21 inch wheel has not really good driving feeling better than 19 inch wheels.

As a point of reference, the PO of my CS replaced the 19" tires at 30K and 60K, right on the nose. I would expect 21s to go faster...also depends on the tire. The Michelins for my 20" wheels have a rated treadlife of 60% of the Goodyears and Contis in the same size...and those Michelins do get noisy!

The only thing I concerned about vibration issues during the driving. I know and understand the tire ware and each makers made different tires such as Goodyear, Bridge Stone something like that.

I just bought my base model from the local dealer and it too has a lot of tire changes, I am on stock 18" wheels!
My thoughts were simply that it's a higher mileage car, 2016 with 93K on the clock. I don't do a lot of miles, and as such I rarely get new tires (I normally get a new car first!), but I assume that someone who is doing a lot of miles has a higher chance of having problems.
Looking at the data you posted, the previous owner was doing 20k a year, which to me is high mileage.

Have 21's on my 18 Turbo. No problem. If you have vibration get your wheels balanced. Or, if they won't balance then tires are out or round. Just had a new set of Michellins installed at 33,000 miles.

21in wheels have very low profile tires. Very good chance of bending or significantly scuffing a wheel, and said low profile tires have less tread depth than say 18 or 19 inch tires so they are probably only going to last 20k miles. Seems pretty normal in my past experience with larger wheels / smaller tires.

I don't necessarily see anything unusual with the issues you have cited, particularly if the owner was running high performance summer tires. These vehicles are heavy and will definitely stress any tire, The wheel repair is also not that unusual and could have been anything from some slight curb rash to a bent wheel from hitting a pothole.

Three Wheelin'
OP the tire history is normal. I had 21" tires on my 2011 CTT and wouldn't have anything less. When I find my next CTT/S or GTS it must have 21' tires too.

When I bought my 911, the used car manager told me that besides routine oil changes, tires and brakes R&R will be more frequent than I was used to. Yep on the tires. Softer compound and front rear differential in wear. All good!
Bought the Cayenne and noticed it is a tire eater too, but much of that I have to attribute to the transfer case failures. From 37,000 miles to 107,000 miles the car is on its fourth transfer case (factory + 3). During each failure, chunks of tire where getting chipped off. When they weren't getting chunked, the Goodyears did wear poorly. Big heavy performance car.
Lastly, If I had taken the advice of my Porsche service advisor's note on every "tires need replacing", my service record would have looked like the one you are looking at.
