Lift Gate Trim/Tail Gate Molding Question

Lift Gate Trim/Tail Gate Molding Question
Has anybody replaced the trim piece/tail gate molding (number 6 in the attached diagram) on the bottom of their lift gate?
I am looking to replace mine, or possibly remove it altogether, and am wondering if this is simply adhered with double sided tape. I am also curious if there will be holes underneath the trim or if the surface is painted and smooth. Has anyone replaced theirs?

For those of you do this. I used one of these,
when I did mine. There was a lot of adhesive that did not come off with the old one. The eraser really saved a lot of elbow grease and did no damage to the paint, even though the new trim piece would cover it anyway.

+1 on the the rubber eraser Boomer80 linked to. Seriously, if you're going to do this job, do yourself a favor and spend the 10 bucks on this tool, you will not regret it. Works great on the PORSCHE, etc. lettering as well.
