958.2 GTS Moonlight Blue
Hello all. Excited to join such a knowledgeable community and figured this might be the best place to post this as the "new member welcome area" is pretty quiet:
After searching high and low for a 958.1 jet green GTS/Turbo/TurboS I landed on a new to me Moonlight Blue w/ Cognac & Espresso interior 2016 958.2 Cayenne GTS, arriving this Thursday. It's got 55,xxx miles on the dial. I've been searching for just the right spec for a few months and look forward to my new foray into PCar ownership. This vehicle seems like a great compromise (for me), living in the mountains of Colorado with two little girls (4 years old and 5 months) and a wife, as I plan to use it as a daily driver. This is the more "practical" replacement to my just sold, modified, supercharged 2008 Audi RS4. We are adding it to our 2015 E350 MB wagon and 2001 Land Cruiser to create a pretty solid little three car quiver. Looking forward to at least a couple months of maintenance free fun before tumbling down the secondary cat bypass and tuning rabbit hole. I tried to purchase this vehicle for the last 5 or 6 months.. first from Porsche Burlingame near San Fran, but for some reason they kept giving me the run around saying it was waiting for some type of emissions recall (weird california stuff???). There is no emissions testing where I live, so this didn't really bother me. When it was for sale at Porsche Burlingame it was a CPO, which made me feel good about the possibility of a sight unseen purchase. Fast forward a couple months and they dump it at auction and it shuffled from Apexcars.net to D&C motors (near portland), who I purchased it from. No longer a CPO, but still close to the spec I was looking for. Looking forward to receiving the car and figuring out exactly what I've gotten myself into. Had the dealer do a 2 stage paint correction, full frontal ppf and ceramic coating before shipping (enclosed) to me.
Quick list of stuff I've been thinking about:
-Cocoa colored weathertech floor mats
-Clear Side markers (IJDMTOY)
-Blendmount for valentine one V2
-Trailer hitch cap
-touch up paint
-Rennline phone mount
-Winter wheels and tires (19' or 20"?? not sure yet)
-painted ignition switch
-Porsche Car seat and back of seat organizer/protector
-Rennline front plate mount
-Secondary Cat Bypass (soul or fabspeed?)
-Tune??
-850 ml of ravenol transfer case fluid
-appointment to try and get the transfer case replaced before the warranty expires in October, though I haven't even driven (or seen the car in person) so the transfer case might be fine...
-Durametric cable or OBDII reader
-second Key
Am I missing anything? Build sheet attached.

@cdeez Dude...photos or no party hats. You know the rules.
Also, by the way, order that second key right away, and consider putting an Apple AirTag on each one.
Oh, and by the way...congrats and welcome to the forum!

Nice buggy!
Had a Boxster that was Dark Blue Metallic and loved the color; haven't seen Moonlight Blue Metallic but from pics looks about as dark.
From your "wish list" I'll offer a couple of comments. I've got a 2014 Cayenne Turbo S
With 21" wheels and red calipers, I'm assuming you've got 390mm front brake rotors (that's what I've got). I went with 19" winter wheels/tires and they just barely fit on the front. In retrospect, I wish I'd gone with 20" wheels/tires for the winter setup. My main issue is that even when being very careful mounting/dismounting the 19" wheels, the front calipers have become scuffed over time. It's not noticeable when the wheels are in place, but it bugs me (yes, I am the stereotypical OCD P-car owner). On a more practical note, if you go with 19" wheels, make sure to go with a tire shop that realizes the caliper-wheel clearance is tight so low profile balancing weights are used. I've used Blizzaks and have been very pleased with their performance (have driven to Vail and Aspen and even on the ice storms we get locally, they've done great).
I bought some Hanksville Hot Rod resonated secondary cat bypass pipes from someone on RLand have been happy with them. Paid around $250 and another $100 to have them installed. Current price is $845. I like them, the build quality is excellent and the sound is great--more low end rumble than stock, no drone. No PSE on my buggy but would imagine would sound pretty nice with it (believe PSE standard on GTS?). Hanksville is local-ish to you (LIttleton) so you could check them out if you ever get over that way. No experience with Soul or Fabspeed but other reviews I've read seem positive. Would I pay almost $1K for them? Not so sure. Again, nothing wrong with them and I like them, it's more of a cost/benefit thing for me. Highly personal decision, obviously.
Wonder if the "emissions stuff" the CA dealer was talking about has anything to do with the deactivation of "Sport +" mode? This is a big issue for 911s and Cayman/Boxsters but not sure if it's applicable to Cayennes.

Nice ride! I’m just up the road in Silverthorne. My indie mechanic is Circle A in eagle they are fantastic! I run 18” winters on mine. Michelin currently, but going to Nokian’s when those need replacement. Enjoy!

I am definitely leaning towards 20" winter wheels exactly for the caliper clearance issue. Also, there seems to be better 20" winter tire availability. I have Nokians on the Mercedes wagon and will likely go that same route on the GTS. Thanks for the input here!
The secondary cat bypass situation is really off in the distance for me. I think on the 2014 Turbo V8 it makes more sense than the 2016 V6 TT platform. I'd rather spend that capital on a tune. My neighbors were not a huge fan of my valved, non-resonated milltek exhaust on the RS4! the GTS does have PSE, so I'll see how it is before making a decision. cost/benefit here is a definite consideration, but doesn't always factor into my car related decisions.
I thought of the recall situation as soon as I read that thread! I don't know why they would dump it at auction though if it was just reprogramming the Sport + ... the whole thing was odd. I would have been fine with them removing the CPO and dropping the price $5k-$7k and unloading it to me. I have a reasonably high tolerance for fixing things (see: previous Audi Ownerships).

You drive from Silverthorne to Eagle for service!!?? I have never used Circle A, but I used Andy Edwards who is right across the cul de sac for my A6 Wagon, S4 wagon and rs4 - he's an audi "specialist" - single stall lift guy! I have also used Dutch Auto, in Minturn, and berg Performance in Denver for different things over the years.

I find myself in Summit and Eagle County areas 3-5 times a year . Was out last June for a wedding and sept for bike riding, Jan and March for skiing. Often wondered who I would go to if the Cayenne ever has a problem while on vacation. I may keep the names of your indy shops just in case.

I've run Michelin Latitude Alpin 2 for the last two seasons in 275/45-20. Many 4 hour one-way trips from our Washington home to our Oregon Chalet for ski season weekends. Mix of freeway and two-lane high-speed highway. Very happy. Grip on packed snow, evacuation on slush, and much more stable than Blizzack on dry. Would buy again. That being said I've never run Nokians so may not know what I'm missing.
And this might be a topic for Private Message, but I was wondering how D&C was from a buying experience? They are local-ish to me, carry good looking inventory, and I've seen a handful of D&C plates in the last year. They are obviously moving cars. Curious if you came away positively dealing with them?
