I've been actually exploring videos and information on how to rebuild it myself. Doesn't look like a bad/difficult job much, just need time and patience. As far as parts needed, its around $500-$600 total, which includes the chain, clutches and a sealing kit since changing seals is a good idea since you've got it all on the table anyway. Parts are from AWD.Tech and video is on youtube. Even found a diagram of the entire case. None the less, i'm still interested on this $1500 unit. Hell.... if I'm totally successful rebuilding mine for under $600, I can do it for whomever local probably for a few bucks more, just for the sake of covering the time spent.

Rebuilding is a breeze, i did a diy thread about it. I dont think the newest versions will last any longer than the old ones.

I'm following this with interest, how involved is the actual swap. Anyone found a DIY/video?

Did you change the shaft seals or just the steel, fractions and chain?
Also, I was looking at AWD.TECH and they have two chains. 1" and 1.25" wide. Which is it?

I replaced the seals, yes. The width depends on the build number of your case. I believe mine was 1.25

Now I'm curious what dictates that chain to be 1 or 1.25, meaning... did random cayenne s have different cases or was it more like, oh its a CTT so it gets bigger chain.

How's the customer service? It suck this happened, but at the same time, it's interesting how good is their support.

It must have been a shipping screw up, always is. Did it arrive by regular mail or freight?

I was unaware a solution had been implemented. Can you cite a source? Is Porsche installing cases with reinforced clutch plates or is there an aftermarket solution(s)?

My second transfer case just started making noise so I will unfortunately be in the market soon

How many miles did the second last?

The second case was installed in mid-2017 and just started making noise a couple months ago, so ~5.5 years or so. The second case got the extended vent tube up into the engine bay, but that wasn’t the problem. I have also changed the fluid three times since replacement and that didn’t help either.

October 2018 and on were the updated, reinforced transfer case clutch discs. That's why your second one didn't hold up!
