Default Can someone explain PCM navigation?

I live in NY and bought my car in PA. I used PCM navigation in NY a couple of times and worked OK.
I drove down to Florida (using Waze) and now I don't have any local cities on my PCM, if I start typing a local city it defaults to cities/towns in NY.
Do I need to load different maps if I drive out of the area?

Ensure you have the correct state selected when selecting a location.

PCM Nav is absurd:@Graufuchs is correct you must start by selecting the correct:"State" every single time, it's maddening!

Tried this yesterday on a 500+ mile drive. Worked fine. I've had navigation in vehicles since 2008 and haven't run into this peculiar user interface "feature". I was wondering why I was showing maps all the way from NY to FL and back but couldn't navigate to any city large or small. Thanks!

I couldn't stand using the NAV on PCM due to what's mentioned above and was so glad to get CarPlay thru Mr 12Volt and never have to worry about having updated maps again.
