Default Safety recall '11-'16 Cayennes

Just got a recall notice on my /15CT.

"Checking Circlip on Bearing Bracket for Pedals".

"The pedal hinge could fracture, allowing the pedal to dislodge. If this occurs, the driver may not be able to apply the breaks, increasing the risk of a crash."

Good to have a specific thread about it. We've talked a bit about it over here too:

https://rennlist.com/forums/porsche-...-cayennes.html

Details about what to look for would be nice so we can skip a trip to the dealer if it's not really needed.

It's a simple check/fix. Already had ours checked. Clips were there, in our case.

Likewise, took about 5 minutes at the dealership. No issue with mine either.

Worth noting : I called them to make the appointment as they had not heard about it yet. Which was mildly irritating. And their attitude was they were going to slowly get in touch with people about it over a period of time.

The description of the problem I read was that if the clip was missing it may allow for "some extra lateral pedal movement which may be alarming". But not this : "The pedal hinge could fracture, allowing the pedal to dislodge. If this occurs, the driver may not be able to apply the breaks, increasing the risk of a crash."

Where did that description come from?

I stuck my phone (camera) up under there this morning and nothing jumped out as to what they are talking about. Hopefully there will be a point this weekend where it isn't too miserable and I'll try to get a better look with my borescope.

If anyone knows (or better has pics) of the offending location that would still be much appreciated.

The language I quoted was from the letter I received from PCNA regarding this recall.

I found the safety recall info at the NHTSA website. What was interesting is that there is nothing related to this using their non-VIN search for my 2011 Porsche Cayenne search. But for the 2015 (OP's year) search it was listed and is applicable to multiple VIN ranges and years, including 2011, of which mine was not in range...but I will check myself anyway.

Brakes are serious business!

Thank you Tom M for the parts lists. That is what I looked for when the Recall was issued # 10 on the parts list. I didn't see any problem . I had the dealer check it when I was in for an oil change and warranty clock replacement ( $700 + ).

Thanks Tom, my dealer is 150 miles away and I want to know the circlip is on there. I will be checking myself this evening. After I know it is safe to drive I will get it into the dealer. For those that have drive I90 between St Regis, Mt to Spokane, brakes are required.

Thanks guys. I agree it's good to have a thread on it. And thanks Tom for the image diagram.

My recall letter has the same verbiage as denoted by Bill.

I checked my 2012 CTT, and the circlip is there. BUT.... I made an Appt w/ my dealer anyway. I want a slip of paper from them, that says they checked it out & all is good. I don't want something to happen down the line, and have anyone say that I never did anything about the recall that was issued & proper paperwork sent to me.

I am expecting that with a Dealer Service Appointment, they will put a notation in their database under my VIN #, stating they checked it out.

Default Circlip

I believe this is the circlip area. I shot a photo of my 2013 CD brake area.

The recall is listed in the PCNA database and verified by VIN. Dealer can enter your VIN and see if your Cayenne is under the recall even if you did not receive the official letter. It may also be a service bulletin notice. I think it is a pretty wide cast of the net though so most Cayennes in the target manufacture range will be to have the inspection / repair done.

Actually the circlip is about 1" above where your arrow points - on the end of the shaft right next to the supporting bracket. And you'll be happy to know yours is there.
