Also, in working through the build on the PUSA site I find that I really don't like the stock wheels on the base model. Is this just me or is it a ploy to induce you to drop another couple grand on wheels that look decent?

There is a compass dash option as well as Sport Chrono. Don't know if compass also has a clock like Sport Chrono.

I really like the look of the new Cayenne. I like the tail lights much better than before. Looks sleek.
And on the interior I like the new look of all the touch screens. I am sure that we will get the same with the new 992 coming out next year.
But usability is a big question mark. I have to find some time between Xmas and New Years and visit a dealer to see "first hand" (pun intended) how it feels.
Do they have the new Cayenne's in stock yet?

Not in the US. But you can try the same thing in Panamera. Actually, Porsche said they improved it on Cayenne over the Panamera based on feedback from Panamera, so you can assume it's going to be same or slightly better on Cayenne compared to the new gen Panamera.

I configured a base model and an S with identical equipment using Build Your Own and discovered the following:

1. The Base Price of the Cayenne S is $17,200 more than the base model.
2. The S includes Panoramic Roof System (3FU), which is $1,850 on the base model. There is no option to delete it from the S.
3. The S includes Power Steering Plus (QZ7), which is $300 on the base model.
4. PTV+ (GH3) is not available on the base model. Could this be a typo? On the S, it is $1,500.
5. Adaptive Air Suspension (1BK) costs $1,990 more on the base model.
6. Adaptive Sport Seats 18-way (Q1J) cost $390 more on the base model.

There may be other differences in option prices that I missed, since I only compared options of possible interest to me.

So how does the new "base" powerplant feel in comparison to the old one? Is the improvement substantial?

The current gas V6 is just so anemic it's really a non-starter for me if I want to replace my CD with something new.

Reviews say that 2019 base is adequate.
0-60 is 5.9 on base and 4.9 on S

The new base along with the improved platform is the one to buy now that the diesel isn't around. The S is almost $20,000 more now in Canada

With S you are getting some options included - so it's not just $20K for 1 second of 0-60 - instead it's better to compare equality optioned S and Base

In an Panamera it's much improved. However, it still doesn't feel, well, spirited in any manner. I would think in the Cayenne it would feel similar. Interesting to see the difference between the PDK in the Panamera and the Slushbox in the Cayenne. I was actually unimpressed with the low speed behavior of the PDK.
