The old sound symposer works really well. I had it on my 991.1 C2S. It made a huge difference and sounded completely natural. I found where the tube came into the cabin and blocked it off and it was a lot quieter. But you can't really do that on today's turbo engines or all you would here is a bunch of F&F Supra turbo whoosh noises.

Awesomely informative post, thank you for compiling this.
Although, I'm not a fan of augmented sound I do think manufacturers are in a helpless state. On one hand, you have the consumer who wants pin drop silence and another that wants to hear everything. Further, in some cases you may have spouses that are both sides of the coin. To resolve this, manufacturers pump in the fake noise. Now, some do it better than others, but yes, its all fake and that is one of the drawbacks of modern cars. Hence, now we know why classic cars demand $$.

I turned the fake engine noise off in my M3 Comp and it's wild how quiet everything is now. Under heavy load, you get a little bit of sound, but the fake noise are so overblown.

Was it an easy job? I will be highly interested to do it in my Cayenne Turbo if it is a simple task.

I have an M3 comp on order. Worry about it being too quiet with ASD off. Wish you could just turn it down. May have to code out and get a mid pipe.

^^^Yep. Mustangs have some good sound. Big blocks from the late 60’s are also a favorite.
My very favorite is the BRM V16 engine. Sounds like a howling demon that just escaped from hell.
Be sure to check out the drive-by’s at 2:00 and 3:40. At 6:00, they move the microphone the cockpit and drive another lap. I play it on my home theater and turn it up to 11. Pure ear ****. No need for blue pills; just listen to this. 😜

Does anyone know if the volume of the fake engine noise can be reduced in the Cayenne by a Porsche dealership from 100% to 0% with PIWIS similar to how it's done on a VW Golf with VCDS as shown in a YouTube video? -->
I'll ask my Porsche service writer on Thursday but I expect to get the usual blank stare.
This thread reminded me of the questions on an owner survey last fall asking my opinion about my Cayenne's engine sound. At the time I thought the questions were a bit strange.

At least the service writer was familiar with the artificial noise on the Taycan EV which may not be saying much since that fake noise is more obvious.
