Default 2022 X5 M

Considering making our Cayenne my wife's DD and trading her Audi for this (for me). Opinion on the deal and any X5 M experience you would like to share. My opening salvo would be $95k and dealer must CPO it.

Recall you swapped 22's on your Cayenne for 21 inch wheels to get all seasons. I think X5M runs 21 fronts/22 rears with summer performance tires. Bimmerpost has a great forum on X5/6 M,

You are correct on both fronts. The X5 M rides on performance run flats. As long as we have one vehicle with all seasons we are good. As a former BMW owner I’m a member of Bimmerpost and BimmerFest so I’m up to date on their latest posts.
My goal in posting here is to gain the wisdom of experience from those who own or have owned both…..Cayenne Turbo and X5 M Competition, for example. So I guess I’m looking for real world comparo

Why not get a Cayenne GTS Coupe or Turbo Coupe?

Short answer is $$ and I’m not a coupe fan. I can buy this $30 k below its original MSRP. I find only one 2022 CT within 500 miles of here and it’s $139k. And the real reason….my wife reminds me that I’m retired and therefore spending our accumulated $$ and not making any $$ in the form of a paycheck. She is the sane one in the fam.
Finally, IMO the M Competition compares more closely to the Cayenne Turbo than it does the GTS.

My opinion is based off of test drives of X5M, X5M50i and Cayenne GTS. I do currently drive F90 M5, so more experience with the engine.

Really want to like the X5M or X5M50i as my BMW dealer is 5 min away and I have a great relationship but both feel stiffer and Jiggly when compared to the GTS. X5M had the DHP. The M seats are great and the engine is ridiculous but for some reason, I felt more confident in the Cayenne. Value wise, X5M cannot be beat and at 95K for a 1 yr low mileage vehicle, it is a great deal if you are okay with the stiffer ride. Idrive 7 is easy to use and Apple Maps from wireless CarPlay shows up on my M5 HUD and should be the same with the X5M.

Donington Gray is a very nice color, Mine is the same but with Aragon Brown interior.

Good luck with your decision- cannot go wrong either way.

It’s a great value but it won’t drive like the Porsche. I’ve had both, although not this gen x5. Test drive it and I suspect you’ll agree. Sit tight (I know it’s hard) and a year from now you’ll probably be able to find a solid deal on a CT. New model coming and recession = good time to buy a 20’-23’, if you can.

I don’t care for X M models. Droney exhaust and nonlinear power delivery on the X3M I drove for a week. Not the V8 X5M, but I didn’t like the balance of attributes comparing my wife’s X3 and my Cayenne S. I don’t think BMW body structure is on the same level as MB and Porsche and therefore more noise and vibration comes through.

What about an RS6? You have an SUV so space/utility is covered. Two Cayennes in the garage might get boring over time.

I just don't picture you as a BMW guy. I couldn't go from a Newer Cayenne to a X5. 30k is nothing. it's going to be going for 75k under it's MSRP in 2 more years.

Have not driven it yet but have driven other current gen X5M's. I hear you! I've had two X5's.......2011 X5 50i and 2017 X5 35d (loved the diesel). The truth be known.......I've been doing some PT for lumbar spine and haven't been able to maintain my usual 3 or 4 days per week on the golf course (poor me). So when I get bored I start looking at cars and when I start looking at cars something new (to me) usually ends up in the garage. This according to my wife and after 48 years of marriage......of course, I've finally learned to readily admit that she's absolutely right! However, we have been looking to replace the Audi for several months but the right combo of vehicle, color combo and options has not presented itself. The X5M does fit the bill in that respect. And I miss having a V8. My usual MO is to buy a 1 or 2 year old CPO.
Outlook is that I'll be back on the golf course in another week or 10 days. Starting to practice now. Maybe I'll get over it by then. I wouldn't bet on it!

I'll connect you with my bride. If you can convince her that $30k is nothing (unless if it's for decorating) it'll be a miracle.

never owned an X5M but also owned several M cars
reason : steep depreciation
so if your concern is $$ , X5M is the wrong car for you . Other than 7 series probably X5M is one of the worst depreciating BMW
