Default Trickle Charger Concern

Hello everyone,

I started using a trickle charger for my 9y0 Cayenne about a year ago since I only come home from work every two weeks and there was a yellow battery warning sign on the dashing board that’s why I started using the charger. When I started using battery was at 12.9 to 13.0V and after a couple of times it went up to 13.4 to 13.5V. My last visit home I noticed that now it always stay at 14.4 to 14.6V. Is that a sign to stop using the charger? Or is it normal?
FYI yellow battery warning sign still on.
I know the battery have some sort of management system that prevents overcharging.

Good day,
Abdullah

What type of battery do you have? Lif0 or AGM and trickle charger?

Is it a "trickle charger" or a "battery tender"?

There is a difference.

Just make sure you are using the correct Porsche charger. I had a 2017 911 and got a battery maintainer from Porsche. But when I got my 2021 Cayenne the dealer told me I needed a Li-Ion battery maintainer to match the battery in the new vehicle.

I got mine from Suncoast Porsche.
it has three options: motorcycle, vehicle (regular battery) , and Li-Ion option

It sounds like you have the right device, but then, how old is the battery itself? After a while they all wear out and resist charging, but I'm no expert on Lithium Ion units. You could have it tested, I suppose.

Four years is not ancient for a car battery, but your location in Saudi Arabia definitely qualifies as an extreme environment - the extremes in outdoor temperature can shorten the life of most any car battery. It might be worth having it tested.

Desert heat is brutal on AGM or any acid batteries even when using a maintainer. I kept a 911 for a number of years at our place in the Palm Springs area and it was replacement every 4-5 years but always on a maintainer.

That's why you need AC in your garage.

Good day,
Abdullah
Well, there was a BMS bug that overcharged the battery and damaged the battery, or caused error codes to be set in the internal battery controller/sensor.

One of the error codes could be reset by Porsche tools, but the other error code was permanent and the internal controller/sensor components needed to be replaced at a cost of around $500 by a third party.

You should check with the dealer to see if you got the TSB to fix the battery overcharging..

I never have seen the voltage in the 14+ volt range..

I charge my battery only from time to time on my 2019 Cayenne S..
