Default It's New So It's Better - Right?

I have a 2019 Cayenne that I decided needs new (replacement) floor mats - so I ordered them.

When they arrived, I immediately noticed that the design of the new rear mats had the anchor connectors removed from them. (The male portion of the connector is of course present on the floor of my car and causes the mat to not lay fully flat.)

This is an example of what happens when a company permits accountants to make final product decisions.

How many other things (that you can't see) have been similarly "updated" in order to reduce cost?

I think a Porsche is worth owning, but things like this give me a bad feeling about the company.

2019 Cayenne. New rear floor mat on the left. Original on the right.

There's a German accountant with a pocket protector and handheld calculator that I need to thank for this...

I vaguely recall that those female sides are transferrable. Have you tried that?

Nope.

I just looked at one of the connectors again. It may be doable.

But looks like there's a good chance it will crack / break in trying to separate the top from the bottom half (due to being brittle related to age / exposure to heat inside the car.)

Weigh the new and old mats.

Lighter new mats would indicate less material and less cost. A few grams and a few pennies is the type of savings car companies implement.

Good point.

I'm not really sensing much difference in the weight or mass of the mat itself though - with the exception of course of the anchoring connector.

I leave the factory all season rear mats installed year round. Reasons are for protection from spills and this thread gives another reason - replacements are not direct fitment.

I do as well. Too much winter etc. to mess up the carpets. They’ll look nice for the resell process.

Was there an option to select ones with and without the female plastic doohickey? Not being a butt and saying you're an idiot, but maybe there is a choice these days.

Either way, that is sucky that they don't have that on them and they won't exactly lie flat.

Seems an easy job to punch a hole in the new mats and transfer the old female sockets to the new mats.

If the old female sockets break, spending more than 15 seconds that I spent, would yield the right Volkswagen or Audi part:

The mats without fastening clips are the version for MY2024.
Turn the them over and compare the part numbers old vs new. If they are different, ask the seller to exchange them for the correct ones. I am sure that there are still mats available for the pre-facelift version.

I've cross-referenced the part number a multitude of times - it's for MY 2019 - 2023. Numerous sources.

Does it mean that old and new rear mats have the same PN?
For pre-lift model set of black mats should be: 9Y1863011AOS5
For MY2024 models set of black mats should be: 9Y1863011BOS5
Grey has last 3 letters: OU6

Did you consider a third party supplier such as Lloyd Mats? I bought a set from them way back when for my 996 Cab and they worked just fine.
