Cool Porsche 993 Paint Correction & Clear bra Install by Unique Car Care

VEHICLE: Porsche 911

SCOPE OF WORK: Interior detail, exterior detail with paint correction, install paint protection film (clear bra) to complete hood, complete fenders, front bumper & headlights.

The owner of this beautiful 993 wanted to ensure that the paintwork was protected against stone chips, road debris and every day wear and tear since he had just repainted the car not too long ago. By covering the entire front-end in paint protection film, the paint will be protected and continue to look new for years to come.

Our goal was to get the paint looking as perfect as possible since it had just gotten a full repaint and to make sure there weren’t any defects that would be seen under the film once the clear bra was installed. The exterior received a hand wash and claybar treatment to remove any bonded contaminants prior to any buffing/polishing.

This is what the paint looked like after the wash and claybar treatment…

As you can see, the paint was a little hazy and had some considerable swirling which required some medium polishing to get the paint looking its best.

Here are the results after polishing…

Now that the paint was full polished and looking its best, it was time for the clear bra installation. First, we measured out the film for the film and got to work!

Laying down the film on the hood…

We perform a fully custom install instead of using pre-cut kits. Pre-cut kits typically have lots of critical areas that don't get covered and are prone to stone damage, not to mention lots of unnecessary seams. By performing a fully custom install, we use bulk film and are able to have all seams very close to any openings (park distance sensors, reflectors, headlights, foglights, etc.) for a cleaner install with added coverage. In addition, all edges are completely wrapped over (hood, fenders, etc.).

In the pictures below, you can see how we removed the headlights, front marker lights and hood emblem so the film could be wrapped into these areas for the cleanest install possible. This really makes a huge difference in the finished product.

Once the hood was complete, we moved onto the fenders…

Then we moved onto the bumper….

Not only is it important to cover all high-impact areas of the paint, it is also important to cover the headlights. Headlights typically pick up lots of stone chips and can result in reduced visibility while driving at night.

We reinstalled the headlights and marker lights, then applied a durable paint sealant to both the painted surfaces and clear bra surfaces for maximum protection.

Here are the final results!!

Thanks for looking!

Awesome work! People need to realize that getting a car repainted is only half the job. Most every body shop paint job that I have ever seen needs a good going over with the proper polish/pad combinations to get rid of all the swirls and other body shop...anomalies. But you knew that.

I normally do my own correction / maintenance work, but if I ever get the old bus repainted, I'm taking it to a pro detailer to complete the process.

Would you mind sharing the cost for a job of that scope? Nice work. Wrapping the film is key to a clean job.

how do you wrap/install around the front bumper seals? How long would you recommend a repaint be cured for, before applying the clear bra? I'd like to get my front bumper resprayed and then have the wrap done.

thanks,

rob
