Default What is the best way to migrate my AiM software settings to a new computer? - WIN 10

Moving to a new laptop and would like to bring all of my configurations and data for Race Studio and Smarty Manager with me.
Search yielded some older techniques but figured I had better ask the brain trust.
Thanks

A couple of options:

1) http://www.aimsports.com/pdf/Migrating-Files-RS2.pdf

2) I just had to restore my laptop from a backup as the hard drive failed. I reinstalled all the apps from AiM's installers, and then restored the contents of c:\AIM_SPORT and C:\Program Files\AIM

It worked perfectly. Note I use RS3 since I have a MXL2.

Is this PDF still current? Never quite sure with AiM.

The PDF is old. Nothing about RS3.

Here is what I do. It's based on my like to start installs "clean" without bringing over any issues that I may have had in old software.

I export my profiles to a folder. I also have multiple different math channels sets that I have saved in a folder. I copy these over to the new computer and then import the profiles and math channels (the math channels are as needed).

Then, I copy all the data over from the data file (it's different in RS3 than RS2), then import it all. This is the part that takes a while. I usually do it as a big chunk and then just let the computer chug for a while.

Matt, how did you export your profiles?

Go to File then Export User Profile (near the bottom). Then on the new computer, you can do Import User Profile.

I've just been through the same, and I have about 500 .drk files.
Problem is that you can't import them all at once. I had to select batches of about 30 of those, or I'd get an error.

+1 -- you can do the backend, copy/paste method but that's cloodgy. I also prefer to use the Export/Import utilities baked into RSA to provide a cleaner migration.

Yep, good call out. Same with downloading data off a car. RS3 handles this much better than RS2 did.

This season I moved to a Surface Pro 4 and it took a while. But I'm happy to report no issues. Just need to cross your T's and dot your I's.
