Considering how long it is taking Porsche to put this car into production, I'd be surprised if the hybrid/battery technology is not outdated BEFORE the first car reaches its owner...

Dream, based on the cars at Barber, the 918 is very close to production. The battery pack is Lithium Ion = which is the latest and greatest. The way I see it, the 918 is not only the ultimate Porsche (for now) but a technology showcase much like the 959 was back in the day. Fuel economy regulations which are coming are so strict that it seems like the choice is hybrid or, no sports cars at all. The 918 is a hybrid I could live with although the price is daunting.

Best,

Nice write up Bob

Bob,
So, would you drive with top on or off at the LCMT DE's?

Yeah, who wouldn't be. Too bad we had to be passengers although I enjoyed my ride with Daniel Eastman who is now the VIP guy for 918 buyers in the USA. The wee drawback is that the car will cost over $1,000,000 up here after sales taxbut before any options. Oh, and in Quebec, the freaking license plate will run about $10,000 the first year. A 1 Percent luxury tax over 40K the buggers snuck in in 2002 with no fanfare.

Bien oui - vive Quebec!
You gotta love living here, together with the highest taxes in Canada.

Bob, thank you for this. I got a call from a Porsche dealer a couple of weeks ago trying to see if I would make a deposit on one. I own one Ferrari's Supercars and recently bought a Carrera 4 for a DD so I guess they think I might be the target market. I was pretty skeptical because I asked the salesman a lot of questions and got what I consider to be BS answers. This was the week before the Barber drive but I got a lot more facts and clear information from your post than I did in a 20 minute conversation with that guy. Thanks a lot. I appreciate that.

I should add that the GM of another local dealership whom I called myself did set me straight on the car. Nonetheless I learned a lot in this thread and I'm grateful to have stumbled upon it. Merry Christmas, too.
