Here are a few snapshots. Top top bottom:
Me, wishing they'd let me drive it! Plug in electric socket, gas filler is the same but on the driver's side. Rear view showing very cool high mounted exhaust.

More pictures of the 918 from top to bottom:
The 918 spyder prototype in a Martini Wrap - note the final version has the full Martini Color Scheme. The Prototype in all its glory. Note the centerlocks, they're red on the left and blue on the right. Apparently the same ones as on the Carrera GT.

I participated on the 12th at Barber and enjoyed a few laps with Daniel Eastman.
Not much to add to Bob's summary other than I thought the car looked rediculous (in person) in the retro liveries....... way too "Boy Racer" which might be fine on a +/- 120k GT3 but not on a million dollar Super Car ! The display car in the upper floors of the timing tower was breath-taking in a beautiful silver and from several angles definitely showed some influences from it's 718GTR Coupe and 904 predecessors. Barber facilities and museum are second to none in the country, food was nice but the "Resort" was not I hope, to Porsche standards ! The folks from Stuttgart need to go to a few events put on by other manufacturers to see what a resort should be ! All in all, nice event and if Porsche will paint my 918 in "65 Bali Blue or '73 Oxford Blue, I might be in ! |

Baron, I missed you by two days - bummer. The car inside the building was a non functioning mock up although built in Carbon Fiber.
FWIW, I found the hotel very nice, the food served at the dinner was outstanding. I left right after the event so I didn't attend the closing dinner. What did you think of the "acid green" accents? I think they are not classy enough for the car, but maybe that's just me. I asked about the ability to maintain the car. The CGT is a bit stupid in that an oil change takes about 8 hours. Apparently the 918 will have a trap door to access the oil drain, unlike the CGT which requires that the entire underbody be removed. Only 2 hours for an oil change - still needs special handling to lift the car due to the CF chassis.

Bob, you look like you really REALLY want one in that first pic
![]() Just as I had suspected early on, they made the battery easy to pull out and replace when newer (hopefully lighter!) technology arrives in the future. Many people on another forum we discussed this car on were concerned that it was going to age rather quickly once hybrid/electric-drive technology moved forward, nice to see that Porsche took this into consideration and that it won't necessarily be the case. The only thing that I find odd in the pics you posted is that the sideview mirrors look a little "droopy", but maybe it's just the angle and photos. Thanks for the writeup, I can't wait to hear and see these cars on the road. |

Hmm I should have mentioned that. We were told that the mirrors were not final production and that the mount would be different, with two struts.
