2007 C2 Coupe with Bose, no Sports Chrono, no Nav, no CD changer, no third party bits.

Up until lunchtime today, I had a line of text directly below the digital speedo which would read "Radio off" when the radio was off and would give either the radio station name or the CD track number depending on how I was using the stereo.

Then I get back in the car after work, having changed nothing at all, and all I see directly beneath the digital speedo readout is four dashes "----".

Yes - I've re-checked the settings in the computer to make sure that "audio" is selected for the display...

It seems as if the computer isn't talking to the radio unit.

Any ideas?

Had software upate on 2009 911 4S but did not fix the abrupt/rough/jerky behaviour just before stopping - from 2 to 1. Dealer has given up. Porsche says it is not a warranty service issue - e.g. nature of the beast. Frustrating that it issue is intermittent/random - why you can stop three times in a row perfectly and the next 2 are rough makes no sense. Any solutions people can share?

We just picked up my wife's new 2010 Z4 35i today. After driving it only about 30 miles so far, here are my initial impressions compared to my '08 C2S:

- The Z4 feels like it makes at least as much low RPM power as the C2S, maybe more. We'll see what the top end is like after break-in but I'm sure it won't compare to the C2S, which makes 55 more hp and weighs a few hundred lb less.

- The gearshift in my 997 is good but the Z4 shifter definitely feels better (both are 6 spd manual). I just ordered a B&M short shift kit from BumperPlugs for my car which should help.

- The clutch in the Z4 is very light, too light for my taste.

- The brake pedal feel in the Porsche is clearly better than the Z4. The Z4 will probably improve as the brakes wear in but Porsche makes the best brakes in the business.

- The forward visibility in the Z4 is not great, due to the high cowl, long hood, and short windshield. By comparison, the 997 has a taller windshield and the front end drops off steeply so that you can barely see the hood from the driver's seat.

- Both cars are about equally comfortable. Both have the optional sports seats but the Porsche sports seats have bigger side bolsters and hold you more firmly in place.

- I haven't had a chance to drive the Z4 hard enough to comment on the handling.

Battery trickle charger - yes or no?

If yes, any reccomendations for any brand that is easy to use?
Avoiding flat spots on the Michelin Piolet Sport tires:
Manul suggests overinflating to 58 pounds.

Other ideas:

- manully moving the car each week a few inches?

- some companies sell items to park on to avoid these flat spots?

I got my 2009 997.2 C2S on monday 11/16. I am so excited!! I've been wanting a Porsche for years all the while debating multiple models, new vs used. I had the dealer swap the classic wheels for Carerra S II wheels w/ colored crests. I wouldnt have ordered XM radio, 6disc changer or seat ventilation but otherwise its my dream build.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JBdlP...&feature=email
Here's a video of it getting delivered. That night it snowed.:banghead: so it was few days before I drove it.

Here's my option list

541 - Seat Ventilation
405 - 19" Carrera Classic Wheel
870 - Universal Audio Interface
810 - Floor Mats in Interior Color
693 - 6-Disc CD/DVD Changer
686 - XM Radio
P17 - PASM Sports Suspension Package
672 - Navigation Module for PCM
635 - Parking Assist System
619 - Bluetooth Phone Interface
342 - Heated Front Seats
P15 - Pwr Comfort Seats w/Driver Mem
680 - Bose High End Sound Package

Sometime tomorrow I'll post some pics & driving impressions. I finally took it out today. What a blast. This 2000 mile break in period is going to kill me.

Driving Impressions: Lotus Evora vs C4S SPASM

My local Lotus dealer here in Reno had (on factory tour) a brand new, Euro spec Evora, with all the options available for view and if you asked...

My local Lotus dealer here in Reno had (on factory tour) a brand new, Euro spec Evora, with all the options available for view and if you asked nicely, driving. I asked and got to.

This is the new 2+2 Lotus, 3050 lbs, 3.5 Toyota sourced V6. About $85k or so optioned out.

1. It is very small and very good looking. Smaller overall than a 997.2 I would say.
2. The back seat is much smaller than a 997.2 back seat. A child would fit if placed longitudinally ;)
3. The engine sound (of this Euro spec car) was not particularly stirring or good to my ears. Even a stock 997.2 sounds a lot better when accelerating
4. The exhaust sound was very quiet. Not sporting at all.
5. A composed and taut yet complaint ride. Expansions strips on the highway at 70 mph were absorbed with gentleness. Much softer than my SPASM in normal mode.
6. As you might expect it cornered flat and fairly neutral.
7. Not much bottom end grunt to the motor. You need to rev it. Far worse bottom end than my C4S.
8. Shifter is very notchy and I did not much care for it.
9. It has a rear "trunk" which I would guess to be approx cu ft as a 997.2 front "trunk".
10. It is really a good looking car in person.
11. Vision out the back and to the sides is very bad. A lot worse than a 997.2. In fact, it was equipped with a back-up camera in the center display!
12. Brakes were very touchy.
13. Pedal/foot floorboard area is tiny. Squeezed down in V-shape. One time I accidentally pressed my braking foot with my left foot when going for the clutch! Did I mention brakes were touchy?? :D
14. It is a really good looking car.
15. Supportive, comfortable body hugging seats. Manual adjust fore/aft, seatback tilt only.

Summation: Driving my 997.2 is always, always a soul stirring experience. Just puttering about, I am always aware I am driving a very special car. Driving the Lotus...while I know I was looking good...was frankly an average experience. And it felt really slow

I think a supercharged version would be a lot more fun. Except if you had to back up or change lanes, at which point it would not be fun regardless of powerplant.

For me, this was another lesson that a 997.2 is so special. To drive another world recognized sports car product and compare the experience. And come away with new found appreciation for what I already have (thankfully!!!).

Took my 911 to this dealership for the first time for 20K service. Service rep Ellen Jackson is top notch-nice, responsive, knowledgeable and terrific to deal with. Store is new and sweet. Car is 3.5 yrs on road and I suggested replacing the battery-they checked it and said it was good. Wonder what some other dealers might have done in that situation. Also, they found small leak in water pump and replaced it under warranty. Do you think an indy would have found that in a 20K service? Only problem with visit was looking at all those new 911 bods and the Panamera.

Recently I have seen various posts showing evidence of a renewed enforcement of the front license plate requirement in some states. This is why I just purchased JCS' tow-hook mounting plate. I looked at several designs and selected this one. Why?

1 - It is well made. Well machined metal parts and good fasteners
2 - Great (light) black stiff plastic backplate - warp-free
3 - Flexible post mounting attach points, offering multiple offsets
4 - And most important - light weight as compared to other heavier designs.

I will keep it in the trunk. But, if the pressure is on I will put it on permanently. Off-center is not a bad thing. Many classic cars have off-center front plates.

Gents wanted to get some advice on the following issue. My car is an '08 997S with ~ 24kmiles on it, and is a leased vehicle. I have dligently changed the oil every 5-6K miles, and have done at least 3 brake flushes on it thus far due to track events. Rear pads at almost 80% still, and fronts at around 60% or so. The lease is up in 12 months, and I expect at that point I will be around 36K miles on the car.

Since I will likely either turn the car in at lease end and walk away, or lease a new one, is it worth doing (read "necessary) the "major" service at my next oil change, which would likely be the 30K mark?, or do you think if I turned in the car at lease end slightly under the 36K miles mark, I would likely not get tagged, since the booklet indicates that plus, air filter, serpentine belt, etc., don't need to technically be done until 36K.

I am leaning toward the former, as at least I know that for 6-8K miles remaining on the lease, the car will be in great shape, and at lease end, all issues will be buttoned up. My local indie, who I love, quoted me $995, which seemed fair, as it includes oil change, brake flush, plus, air filter and serpentine belt.

Appreciate your thoughts
